My daughter: in the TLC song “No Scrubs,” what do they mean by “scrub”?
Me: Honey this is the one and only pop song in history that opens up with a dictionary and thesaurus entry.

Whenever I say we should return to 1940-1980 tax levels for the super wealthy (billionaires) of 91%+ marginal tax I hear, "If you do that, billionaires will leave the USA."
To which I say:
1. Promise? Because it didn't happen last time.
2. Don't threaten me with a good time.

Meme: Shut the Fuck Up, Greg. Text: A couple and their child were looking over our Marvel characters plush at my work, right? And the dad turns to the little girl and asks, "Which Marvel character do you want?" His little girl, maybe 9 replies, "Mmm, I think I want Captain Marvel." Dad makes a face, and says, "How about you choose a real super hero and not a little princess?" Me and my coworkers are about to smack down on this man when his wife makes a FACE and says, "Honey, you get Captain Marvel." Then turns to her husband. "Shut the FUCK up, Greg." And that has become out new motto for dealing with misogynists at work. Shut the fuck up, Greg.
This reminds me of something Toni Morrison wrote.
So consider this long thread a way of keeping me accountable; we'll see what the damage is in December. Though a new wrinkle is that I think I'm getting carpal tunnel in both hands, so who knows. 11/11.
Though that means it might also dictate some of my knitting for this year (not a bad thing). If I want to come out ahead but also want to buy a sweater quantity of yarn, that means I'm either knitting a sweater or a lot of smaller projects this year. 10/11
I started using the spreadsheets last year and actually came out at par (yarn in=yarn out) which was pretty good, especially as I had a secret project that didn't get logged for secret reasons that took up a lot of my knitting time. My goal for this year is to come out ahead, though. 9/?
I'm not counting partial balls left over or yardage--if I have to weigh them to figure out how much I have left, that's adding a bunch of steps and I'm less likely to actually do it. Also I have a project that's using my leftovers that I actually haven't abandoned yet, so that's progress. 8/?
the colour way, number of skeins, any project ideas for it and where I bought it. I'm also logging every skein I use with the name & colourway, number of skeins used, and what I used it for. To make sure I actually fill it out, I'm just counting number of skeins (100g=1 skein). 7/?
all my self-striping yarns in another) so I know how much I have if those and don't forget how much I already have when I'm tempted by new pretties.
Two, I've set up a pretty basic spreadsheet in Google Docs, with two tabs: Yarn In, and Yarn Out. I'm logging every skein I buy with the weight, 6/?
One, I switched up my storage, putting all my yarn in clear 26L latching bins. I've put all the yarn in standing up, so I can see the end of every skein when I open the bins and it's (mostly) sorted by yarn weight. I've also collected similar yarns together (all my gradient yarns in one bin, 5/?
However for myself, and due to a number of different factors, I last year I decided I should at least have an idea of how much I'm acquiring and how much I'm using. Especially as I do want to use the yarn I have. It's pretty! I want to make pretty things with it!
So I've done two things: 4/?
...the whole "object impermanence" thing.
There is the joke that collecting yarn and using yarn are two separate hobbies, and I'm certainly not going to judge anyone for the size of their stash/the amount of yarn they buy. I reserve the right to be astonished by it, though. 😂 3/?
While I have slowed down my yarn purchases in the last 5+ years, I was still buying yarn and didn't have a really good idea of how much I was acquiring vs. using and therefore the rate of growth of the stash. It also doesn't help that I probably have ADHD and my yarn storage wasn't helping with 2/?
Some knitting thoughts, thread incoming.
So I've been knitting for 25+ years at this point, which means I've had a lot of time to build up a stash. None of my current stash is that old, but I know I have stuff that is about 15 years old, maybe the occasional skein that's older. 1/?
The worst part of this wretched never-ending rainy winter that won't end is that I'm not inspired to write Frankenstein.
Death you owe us at least one Proper Arsehole, you bony twat
Catherine O’Hara didn’t steal scenes she just showed up and ownership automatically defaulted to her
$40 an hour to make the fascism machine better at writing and they want like a Nebula Award winning author lol lol lol
My stash in/stash out spreadsheet lets me feel accomplished and helps me (theoretically) reconsider purchases without the burden of actual numbers.
Watching a number of "organizing my yarn stash!" vlogs has made me think about inventorying my stash, but I'm not sure I want that data. 😆
I'm just going to keep saying this until I die:
In a white supremacist patriarchy, you have value only insofar as you serve the white supremacist patriarchy.
Kyle Rittenhouse & Ashli Babbitt did. Renee Good & Alex Pretti didn't. On Jan 6, the insurrectionists did. The cops didn't.
Rinse, repeat.
Pop science summarizes the literature as "Tetris completely prevents intrusive thoughts after a trauma" and it's not that clear-cut an effect, but it does greatly reduce the rate and severity of the later intrusive recall of an event, especially a visual exposure.
3. If you see content that disturbs you, immediately (or as fast as possible) go and play 20-30 minutes of Tetris (or any other fast-paced game with your eyes sweeping over the visual field that has caused visual artifacts to linger when you close your eyes for you in the past).
Mini marsupial bounces back from the brink!
Once listed as Endangered, the crest-tailed mulgara expanded its range by more than 48,000 km² between 2015 and 2021, lifting its status to Least Concern. Biocontrol contributed to the heartwarming bounce-back.

This is one of the ways that white supremacy weaponizes civility: by implying that certain people get to be served, and other kinds of people (you know what kinds) need to be grateful, without interrogating it.
Was rummaging through old articles and found this one of Demetre Daskalakis. Apparently, back in 2013, he went to New York City's gay sex clubs and bathhouses and administered meningitis vaccines and helped beat an outbreak.
It's cooled off outside, time to snuggle up inside with some more dateables in Date Everything! twitch.tv/knitwitkaren...
Oh dammit. I hadn't heard. Libby is the U.S. library sysem app for remotely checking out ebooks, etc. so it uses our tax dollars to function.
OverDrive is a for profit publishing-related distributor that is dominant in publishing. I would say we need to go after them with all of our rage for this.
