You could read fanfiction for a television show you only thought was pretty okay based on a book that is pretty not amazing, but which does have the fun thing the show didn't, where the main character is the dumbest main character ever in a book and has rocks in his head. Do that! Read that.

I have watched the trailer. I am not upset about the trailer. I am mostly extremely neutral on the trailer, as it has failed to abate my anxiety but also I guess? Maybe? Could still not be confirming my anxieties? We will see?

You know what, for the good of the fandom- if I hate the trailer when I watch it I will express this only in the form of RPing Rhoshamandes. That's not a promise, that would just be very funny to me.

WHEN I get home and can watch with sound I will watch knowing this specific element is unfortunate and also on my big screen and good speakers and maybe I'll be more excited. Who knows?

On a personal note- I want to be proven wrong. I want to find out they just shoved everything modern in the trailer and it is a real adaptation of the book, and they filmed all the parts I want to see (most of the book) and only cut what I don't (THE ELDER)

Could you cut together a trailer for each of those seasons without those two characters? Yeah, I guess, but that would be weird. People concerned about the adaptation would be concerned. That is where I am.

A good analogy for what I am seeing would be if the first season trailer didn't have Lestat in it. Or the second season one had no Armand in it. Like yes, maybe that material was filmed- but show me. Show you did. Without it, you're not marketing *and adaptation of that book.*

It's one thing to hold things back- but when you're marketing an adaptation, and you care about whether or not people who love the source watch it, you don't show almost 0% of the source in the marketing. And that makes me very nervous about what marketing is working with.

I think it feels slightly insulting to the concept of this adaptation to include almost no material from the book in the trailers. And by almost no I mean "almost no." I know the book like the back of my hand and am not a sticker to accuracy- a lot is not there.

I think I'm over the mystique argument 🫠 I'm glad the dialogue is talking about the past, but I'd me much more excited for an adaptation of the book if they were willing to show (me, who knows it back and forward) more to indicate they were including more of it!
