University of Galway plans to end and replace arts course amid fall-off in interest ‘Urgent’ reform aims to meet changing needs of students as they seek ‘direct routes to employment’

Very worrying & sad development. An arts degree, in my experience, of its very nature facilitates the development of the skills which are really key - critical thinking skills, analytical skills, reasoning. Skills urgently needed in this fractured world

Yesterday in a certain country a man who was evidently not "brandishing" a gun was killed by federal officers. Truth is being continuously bent and violence is the norm. Maybe the new Board of Peace should intervene. Oh wait....

There is nothing "humanitarian" about this. How are we standing by and watching international law swept aside?

Congratulations to all who were recognised and celebrated at the event this morning. The citations read this morning reflected the commitment, innovation and, most importantly, care for students, evident in the work of all those who were nominated. An event which was good for the soul!

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

So important. Spending time in each teaching session to connect with students, ask them how they are. Showing that we see them

A2 Models for providing feedback in medical or health professions education such as ALOBA (Silverman) can be useful (as long as they maintain the dialogic perspective!)

It was a pleasure to host a meeting of ECIU (European Consortium of Innovative Universities) colleagues last week. A busy but fruitful few days discussing our role in the ECIU Education strategy and future objectives and priorities. A great sense of community, collaboration & relationship building
