If Mitch Daniels was running DOGE, they'd have already began implementing GAO recs to fix the $191 billion in payment errors, consolidating duplicative programs, and auditing 1000s of programs for efficiencies - legally, competently, and with minimal disruption. That's real savings.

But tariffs are going to make us richer than we've ever been, Scott! Lambs will lay down with lions and the land will flow with milk and honey.
Dear Dems. This is a reminder that Donald Trump rescinded the ethics rules preventing gifts to executive branch employees.
Now would be a good time to propose legislation formalizing the prevention into a law
Time to do things that make him react to you.

It's strange to hear an intellectual case for steel tariffs - as opposed to a populist stump speech - because it's so obviously wrong, as @scottlincicome.bsky.social makes clear.
You seriously look like you're in physical pain listening to this.

I definitely will watch this. Ferry argued last year that universal 10% tariffs together with tax cuts would raise American incomes significantly and stimulate $728 billion in economic growth. Seems odd considering the net 74k jobs lost due to steel tariffs in 2018, but I'll keep an open mind.
Who really pays the price for #Trump's tariffs?
Scott Lincicome of the Cato Institute and Jeff Ferry of the Coalition for a Prosperous America discuss the costs and benefits of #DonaldTrump's trade policy in a forum at Hofstra University.

You really need your own podcast, Scott. I'd be one of at least a couple dozen people that would never miss an episode.
They literally have constitutionally granted powers in Article One to control federal spending, but are too cowardly to assert those powers. They're all too happy to concede their powers to unelected, unaccountable people and pretend their hands are tied.

It took me a bit to write up my thoughts on American Primeval, and a bit more for the Tribune to publish them, but I think we could all use a little more nuance and a few more history lessons right now.
Remember this administration has the full support and votes of people who "never get offended" and are "free speech absolutists"

Added to my reading list. Thanks for bringing this book to my attention, Ardis!
Yes.
Trump administration reciprocal tariff analysis will look at non-tariff barriers too. I assume, of course (of COURSE), that it'll consider all the American NTBs - subsidies, quotas, Buy American, regulatory barriers, etc - too, right?
Right?! https://buff.ly/4gNRK0E

My new Capitolism @thedispatchmedia.bsky.social explains that, even though Trump's Canada/Mexico tariffs are now paused, we learned a lot abt US trade economics & policy - little of it good:

I didn't say they were bad. They can be a little odd sometimes. Then again, so can our fans. 🙂
