It's a very good trick. The author is a magician.
It is pre-rendered and streaming from the 4MB ROM. I think it's replacing only the tiles that change each frame.
Don't know more details, tho.

The topic of raycasting on MSX has come up. A while ago I made a renderer for MSX 1 which looks like a raycaster (so-called backwards projection) but in fact it's a rasterizer (forward projection). MSX2 is actually a color per line, you can overlap 2 sprites and get a third color using bitwise OR.
And a max of 8 sprites per line.

All mods are 3D printed and reversible. Replaced the power supply with a new one (-900 gr), added a power booster for 12V and mini magnets to keep the handle in place. Quite happy with the result. #MSX
