A comic rendition of a scene in a personal project fic (that I dusted): “The Ghost of Wuwang Hill” The Chinese title reads 《无妄之幽灵》 (Pinyin: Wúwàng Zhī Yōulíng). Panel 1 shows an undead Hu Tao steering a car, while saying in two speech bubbles: (1) “Has it not occured to you that no one (underlined) has survived this vengeful spirit’s rage? (underlined)” and (2) “You really want to see me… to join me… don’t you, my dearest (underlined) Yanfei?” Panel 2 shows an angry Yanfei tearing up and perspiring with a speech bubble “…”, while a scale and ghost keychain dangles below the rearview mirror. Panel 3 shows a pointer of a speedometer at 160kph, with a note saying roughly 100mph, and a speech bubble: “You show bo signs of yielding.” Panel 4 shows an evening road with speed lines, a speech bubble: “Or stopping… I see…!”, and my signature. Panel 5 shows a close-up of undead Hu Tao’s mouth, her facial scars/cracks, tears, and the words written in the Chiller font: “YOU DO WANT TO JOIN ME!”

Portability and productivity is quite the combo indeed!
“Hu Tao’s Struggle!” This time, Hu Tao’s struggling a mystery opponent. The following panels are mostly based on a few shots from Takumi’s battle with Dr. Joshima and his S2000. The first panel shows her tachometer revving up to a little above 11,000rpm from downshifting. The second panel is a close-up on Hu Tao’s eye while the (improportional) keychains of a ghost and scales dangle before her. Her thought bubble with sharp edges reads, “干嘛…!太快了!!” (TL: Shoot…! You’re fast!!) The third panel depicts her downshifting from fourth gear to second gear with her right hand in a split second. Below the third panel reads “胡桃的对手究竟是何人?!” (TL: Just who is Hu Tao’s opponent?!) with my signature near the lower right corner.

“Hu Tao the Street Specialist” The pose, dialogue, and scene are all based on Takumi’s expression before he passes Keisuke’s RX7 with his AE86 in Mt. Akina’s/Haruna’s consecutive hairpin curves. In this rendition, I drew Hu Tao based on the following mentioned. Speech bubbles read: (from right to left) 1. 無妄の丘の「仕掛けるポイント」は…… Wuwang Hill’s “setup point”… 2. …この先の連続ヘアーピンカーブだ!! … lies in the consecutive hairpin curves up ahead!! Below are: (from left to right) A map indicating Hu Tao and her opponent, Ganyu, before the consecutive hairpin curves, a text つづく (tsudzuku) and arrow with the text (and translation of the JP text) “To Be Continued!”, and my signature.

This is a redraw of my Day 7’s Baize Hu Tao rendition. She wipes her lips stained with blood. Improvements can be seen through the proportions, eye shape, and general design of Hu Tao as seen through MedlowDown’s rendition of Baize Hu Tao. The speech bubble now contains the text “Don’t you DARE touch her…” with the legal scales emoji following after. I have not written the time finished but this took at least an hour.

I drew Yanfei’s face and hand in a pose by Kindaichi from the series “Kindaichi Case Files”, specifically in the openings for “The File of Young Kindaichi R”, where she mimics Kindaichi gazing at the audience with furrowed brows and earnest eyes and with a hand on her face, slightly covering her mouth and touching her cheek and nose. In Japanese text, she says in a speech bubble:「謎はすべて解けた!!お父様の……名にかけて!!」 Romaji: Nazo wa subete toketa! Otousama no… na ni kakete! EN TL: In the name (underlined) of my father… ALL THE MYSTERIES HAVE BEEN SOLVED!!

Day 22 “This Monster wants to eat me (striken-through) TIMEOUT!” This sketch was an attempt at a full-body drawing, while also being a meme reaction after watching the scene in Watatabe where Hinako begs Miko and Shiori to stop fighting, wherein Shiori gestures a “timeout” handsign. Shiori in this pose is a reference to Shaq O’Neal’s meme image where he gestures the same “timeout” handsign.
Day 21 I tried making facial designs and practice drawings for “The Ghost of Wuwang Hill”, which is basically Hu Tao’s ghost form for my alternate universe of the same title. One head mutters “Yan~ Yan~” with a scuffed face of Yanfei reacting, in reference to a drawing of Scuffed Patrick in Spongebob Squarepants. One such dialogue “I miss my wife Tails (struck-through) Xiao… I miss her a lot…” was a reference to Alfred Coleman’s voiceline in SnapCube’s improvised dub of Sonice Adventures 2.

Day 19 For this day, I reimagined a scene in MF Ghost, i.e., Kanata and his Toyota GT86 vs Taylor and his Porsche 911 GT3, but with Qiqi and Diona aged up respectively. Troubled, Diona mutters “I can’t lose HERE!!!”, while Qiqi earnestly presses forward. I had trouble with the eyes and its proportion to their faces and head sizes. These could be improved in a future redraw.
Indeed it is 🙂↕️
An attempt in sketching Yanfei’s entire splash art. A speech bubble reads, “Top Legal Expert of Liyue: that’s me, Yanfei!” with a clip art of a scale.
Yanfei with Edgeworth’s outfit and a BooTao pin.
Another attempt at drawing Yanfei based on her splash art.
Sketches of Yanfei’s face without the use of a reference.
Day 13 through Day 16

Today, Hu Tao’s eyes were the main subject of practice. Comparing it to Yanfei’s eyes, I had more confidence with Yanfei’s than with Hu Tao’s. The last pair features Hu Tao’s eye having Naruto’s Itachi’s Amaterasu with a chibi head of Yanfei getting shocked at it.
Day 11
#hutao
Yanfei’s eyes were the main practice target today, with 21 pairs drawn. With iterative drawing, I manage to get a feel on how the main aspects of Yanfei’s eyes: droopy and with “resting-determined eyebrows”. The one with three stars seem to be the closest one out of all 21 pairs to how Yanfei’s eyes should look like, at least while facing front.
Day 10
#yanfei
After watching Sycra’s “Iterative Drawing” vid, I’ve decided to do just that, in hopes of being efficient in achieving the results I want to see the soonest. Day 9 consisted of me practicing Yanfei’s and Hu Tao’s eyes a la iterative drawing. I’ve decided to do iterative drawing for the next days of practice. The last pairs of eyes was me fooling around by adding the Sharingan to Hu Tao’s eyes.
Day 9
Eye practices for the following characters (top to bottom): - Yanfei’s droopy eyes - Hu Tao’s plum blossom-pupiled eyes - Qiqi’s rather vertically oblong-like eyes My notes express how I need/could try to draw both eyes at the same time (as opposed to focusing on one at a time), getting a sense of symmetry, the space between both eyes equaling to one eye length, maintaining accuracy (to the reference material), and learning from YouTuber Sycra’s “Iterative Drawing”.
Baize Tao is a fanon concept by MedlowDown, wherein Hu Tao is envisioned to have adeptal heritage and features within her, based on the mythical creature, the Baize. Prominent features include her dark and slightly wavy horns and tails (not shown). Originally, her sclerae were white, but this rendition envisions her sclerae as black. Baize Tao wipes off some blood off her lips, while saying, “Don’t touch her…” with a pair of scales (referring to Yanfei) right next to the text in the speech bubble. The notes on the left remind me to take note of drawing proprtions, eye practice, line-drawing confidence, and cross-hatching.

Day 6 involves a sketch of Qiqi smiling with closed eyes while saying “Hu Tao-jiejie! Yanfei-jiejie”, a ghost representative of Hu Tao (similar to the ghosts she summons), a small xiezhi deer representative of Yanfei, a freaky chibi head of Yanfei with a long tongue out and lolling, a discombobulated yet interested Hu Tao with her eyes cartoonishly poking towards Yanfei, and my notes indicating the proportions of Qiqi’s head, the aforementioned characters’ ornaments, and the need to understand proportions and the sense of 3D. The references used here were from various images sourced from Pinterest, whose original artist may be searchable through a reverse image search.
Day 5 really focused on three-point perspective practices. Ten cuboids (five above and five below the horizon) of varying sizes sketched from the intersection of four different points of origin were produced. My notes stressed how I needed to have a sense of “3D”, as I believed it was critical in drawing.
Day 5
Days 3-4 just consisted of practice sketches. Mainly me drawing cylinders and practicing point-perspectives. Day 3 produced 3D shapes, specifically cylinders and cuboids. Day 4 focused on practicing three-point perspective that resulted in two rectangles above and below.
Days 3-4
A trial sketch of Hu Tao with all my skill so far poured out. Notes are written in English and Mandarin, detailing the areas I have to improve on, mainly: - facial proportions - body parts’ relative proportions - line confidence
It’s been a long plan that was inspired by friends, Pewds, and certain goals in life, plus I do wanna sharpen my drawing skills.
Also, the refs I use are mainly from DragaliaArchive, random Pinterest photos, Google Photos, and YouTube videos. I can’t list them all though 😅 but I’ll try provide!
