A shortage of affordable housing in Maryland hurts working families and puts homeownership out of reach for too many. My committee will have a virtual briefing on the state of residential development today at 1:00. Watch live here: tinyurl.com/zc2vjfb

I got my flu shot yesterday and the latest COVID vaccine last month. Flu and COVID have been low but we’re headed into the winter surge. If you haven’t got your vaccines yet, now is a good time to protect yourself & those around you through the winter.

Newspaper headline saying “Trump administration demands states ‘undo’ full SNAP payouts”

What kind of monsters withhold food assistance, appeal to the Supreme Court for their right to withhold it, then demand states take it back? Hell yes, I’m angry. Taking food away from hungry children is a red line for me, and should be for everyone.

Here are a few local orgs addressing hunger needs, but there are others:

After Friday, there will be no more SNAP support for families in need and the President refusea to use legal means to fund SNAP temporarily. We are headed into a hunger crisis. If you are financially able, please consider donating to a food bank, food pantry, church, or other org with food support.

Donald Trump found $40 billion to send to Argentina but he can’t find money for SNAP to feed hungry children. Allowing children to go hungry should be unacceptable to everyone and no government should tolerate childhood hunger.

2/ As one of the few farmers in the General Assembly, the entire committee relied on his knowledge and experience. His passing is a loss to his district, the state, and his committee family, and we will miss him. I offer my prayers and condolences to his family and friends.

1/ It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of my committee colleague, Delegate Charles Otto. We may have disagreed on many things, but I appreciated his kindness and gentle humor, and had the greatest respect for his commitment to his district.

In America, we don't have kings, we have a Constitution, and everyone, even our President, must follow it. Only a large peaceful mobilization can stop the slide to authoritarianism. We need millions of people in the streets! I'll be at Catonsville No Kings. Find an event near you: www.nokings.org

I’m grateful to my senators @vanhollen.senate.gov and @alsobrooks.senate.gov for fighting back against Republicans who are trying to de-fund healthcare needed by millions of Americans to give tax breaks to wealthy donors. Stay strong, Senators. You have our backs and we have yours.

We flew back home Tuesday from visiting family, and experienced no delays. TSA lines were short & TSA employees were professional in spite of working with no pay. Thank you to TSA and air traffic controllers and all federal employees, whether working for no pay or furloughed during the shutdown.

Trump and Kristi Noem promised to go after the worst of the worst. How does zip tying children fit into that?

We should not stand for it. Keep showing up and keep speaking out. This corrupt government needs to know that its citizens are watching and that we do not accept their constant violations of human rights, civil rights, and our Constitutional rights..

The suspension of Jimmy Kimmel - along with the state-sanctioned doxxing of ordinary Americans - is a dangerous escalation of our slide into tyranny. When the government uses its regulatory authority as a threat to coerce a private company to do its bidding, that is a shocking abuse of power.

Remembering the tragic events of 9/11. Today, 24 years later, I honor those who lost their lives and their loved ones, the survivors, and all still affected, physically and mentally, including the first responders who put their own lives and health at risk in service of others.
You are not forgotten

My heart breaks for Charlie Kirk’s family, and I pray for them in this time of unimaginable loss. We don’t know the shooter yet, but it seems likely it was political. Political violence is never acceptable, and I condemn it unequivocally. This is not a left or right issue, it’s a human one.

“Privatizing” was the wrong word. I meant that I’m not talking about a system where doctors would work for the system. That brings its own set of problems. Doctors should be able to be independent and bill the public single-payer system.

Everything about our healthcare system is broken. If we had universal, single-payer healthcare, then by definition all doctors would be in-network. And no, I don’t mean privatizing doctors; just that the government would be the insurer. #healthcareforall www.thebanner.com/economy/john...

Deploying American troops against Americans on American streets is not normal. Gangs of federal agents stopping people on the streets without probable cause is not normal. These are the actions of a dictator and we should never accept them.
