I love that Trump gets a Special Boy Step to stand on.

White flag of surrender
I celebrate Confederate Heritage Month with a more appropriate flag:
LP cover. A blue tinted black and white photo is on the right three fifths, of a Black man (Henderson) looking out of darkness at the camera in three quarter view, wearing black framed glasses and a trimmed mustache. The lapel of a dark grey pinstriped suit is just barely visible in the bottom left. The left side is a panel with the artist in a white serif font, the title in a very large magenta font, and the sidemen under that.

Henderson, ts; Kenny Dorham, t; Andrew Hill, p; Eddie Khan, b; Pete La Roca, d.
LP cover. A black and white photo of a very light-skinned Black man (Burrell) standing against a stark greyish white background, with his guitar resting on the floor while he holds the headstock with his hands, and looks to his left, straight at the camera, tilting his head forward, with a serious expression on his face. He's wearing a black suit and black shoes.
#jazzsky #vinylsky Kenny Burrell, s/t, Prestige, 1957 [Craft OJC reissue, 2025 here].
Burrell, g; Cecil Payne, bs; Tommy Flanagan, p; Doug Watkins, b; Elvin Jones, d.
LP cover. A Black man (Byrd) is leaning on the hood of a Mercedes-Benz 190 SL (I think). He's holding a lit cigarette in the fingers of his right hand, upon which his chin also rests. He's wearing a snappy hat and a leather jacket, and the cuff of a white sweater is visible. In the background are leafless trees - it's winter. The only part of the car that is visible is the left side of the grill with the famous logo, part of the left headlight, and the bulge of the hood. Francis Wolff strikes again. Reid Miles added yellow, red, and orange text, for the title, artist, sidemen, and catalog number.
#jazzsky #vinylsky Donald Byrd, Off To the Races, Blue Note, 1959 [1990 Japanese reissue].
Byrd, t; Jackie McLean, as; Pepper Adams, bs; Wynton Kelly, p; Sam Jones, b; Art Taylor, d.
"and then, I would STAB the butter, like this"
I am opposed to putting clothes on horses. Sorry not sorry
À beautifully designed pen and pencil set.
Mira Sorvino did in fact invent Post-it notes.
Stevie Wonder isn't blind.
LP cover. A black and white photo of a Black man (Jackson), with an enormous gear in the foreground, from a mill or a bridge or something big. It's outdoors, but the background can't really be made out. He's holding his tenor, and looking at the camera with an "I don't know either" look on his face.

Jackson, ts; Jimmy Neeley or Richard Wyands, p; Wendell Marshall or Peck Morrison, b; Gus Johnson or Mickey Roker, d; Juan Amalbert, conga.
No more Kennedys.
Douche canoe
LP cover. An emotionally intense oil painting by Richard Jennings of a Black man (Monk), looking intently to our right, mouth slightly opened, a curl of beard below. The painting is in a gold colored frame, and is tilted away from us. The background behind the painting fades from white to purple and then very dark at the top. THELONIOUS MONK with JOHN COLTRANE fills most of the top half of the cover .

LP cover. An unusual effort from Reid Miles. A VERY dark brick red tinted collage photo of a Black man (Morgan? Doesn't look like him) in a raincoat, sitting on a public bench, looking up at a collage of Broadway theater neon: Search For Paradise in Cinerama at the Warner Theatre, the Loew's State, others unrecognizable, plus other illuminated signs -- "Don't Walk", a hat store, all just dark red streaks against the black sky.
#jazzsky #vinylsky Lee Morgan, City Lights, Blue Note, 1958 [this is the brand new 2026 Tone Poet reissue].
Morgan, t; Curtis Fuller, tb; George Coleman, ts as; Ray Bryant, p; Paul Chambers, b; Art Taylor, d.
He still believes they were guilty. He still believes they should be executed.
Freddie Adu was "the next Pele" at 14 when he signed a contract with DC United. Of course, MLS was small potatoes at the time, and Adu never came close to greatness. Hyped youth players often fail.
LP cover. On a white background, the artist and title take up almost the whole field with gigantic yellow letters with black outline and shadow effect. There is a tiny photo just off center, which is red tinted black and white and depicts the entire band, but since it's very dark and the figures are about an inch tall, it's not too helpful. Don Schlitten did a ton of covers like this for Prestige in the mid-late sixties, apparently in imitation if the classic Blue Note covers that were also text heavy, minus all the skill and taste....
#jazzsky #vinylsky Willis Jackson, Live! Action, Prestige, 1966.
Jackson, ts; Frank Robinson, t; Pat Azzara (aka Pat Martino), g; Carl Wilson, org; Joe Hadrick, d.
Not the Reds/Orioles outfielder or the Beach Boy, in case you're wondering!
TIL that many, many people are traveling with fewer underpants by WASHING THEM IN THE HOTEL ROOM COFFEEMAKER. I need a bigger font for my HELL NO.
LP cover. A Black man (Davis) is standing in front of a perforated sound-absorbing panel in a studio. He's holding his tenor with his left hand, in front of a large microphone, and waving at something off frame with his right. He's wearing an exceptionally natty blue green suit with a blue Oxford buttondown shirt and a dark tie. His hair is processed in a high pompadour and his mustache is sharp. The look on his face says that he knows it, too. A happy picture.
#jazzsky #vinylsky Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Lock, the Fox, RCA Victor, 1966.
Davis, ts; Les Spann, g; Ross Tompkins, p; Russell George, b; Chuck Lampkin, d; Ray Barretto, congas.
LP cover. Orange tinted grainy black and white photo of a white man (Konitz) playing his alto, in profile. The photo is very dark, with highlights on his face, the keys of his horn, and the front of his tweed jacket. His name is in the upper left quadrant, in white, in a "chalk" style font.
#jazzsky #vinylsky Lee Konitz, Subconscious-Lee, Prestige, 1957 [this is the 1976 Japanese reissue; compilation of tracks from two 1951 10" LPs].
Konitz, as; Warne Marsh, ts; Lennie Tristano or Sal Mosca, p; Billy Bauer, g; Arnold Fishkin, b; Denzil Best, Jeff Morton, or Shelly Manne, d.
900lb crates full of onions in a field
The Coachella music festival is in the news with the minimum price of sold out 3-day ticket costing $549. Contrast that with "Nicolas" who is currently harvesting onions in the Coachella area and getting paid $22 for a $900lb crate. #WeFeedYou #coachella2026
Boastful Quaker Oats ad, Chicago 1891
Unbelievable corruption right in front of our faces.
"I don't have a job"
I was there on Monday, and there was a cop car just driving a big circle around the station. Saw him three times in ~15 minutes.
LP cover. A yellow tinted black and white photo of a Black man (Newman), in profile, blowing his horn, with distended cheeks and furrowed brow. He's wearing a black suit with a white dress shirt.

Dory riding a track bike in a US kit
Dory on the podium
Dory Selinger lost his leg in the early '90s after a driver hit him with a car. He went on to earn a gold medal in the 2020 Paralympics and was a three-time world champion.
A driver killed him on 4/16 while he was riding a bike.
