I hold a lot of space for people in IPV situations because they are in crisis and survival mode. This sometimes means they can’t be great friend to you because they may put you in an unsafe circumstance. So very often they get alienated, but the abuser keeps their circle.

When you are in a toxic, unsafe situation, you develop toxic, unsafe coping mechanisms. So lots of victims of IPV feel trapped by the idea of not being a good person. They stay because they believe they’re also feeding it.

Punching through walls = abusive behavior.
Driving crazy when you’re arguing = abusive behavior.
Threatening self-harm when you aren’t compliant = abusive behavior.
Sharing embarrassing intimate information without consent = abusive behavior.
