In Germany, it is becoming increasingly difficult for left-wing and anti-fascist organisations to keep or open bank accounts. Here is another example from the VVN-BdA.

i fully understand why gefilte fish is such a divisive food (I adore it), but one of my favorite bits of concrete applied food history is the Gefilte Fish Line, which maps the sweet vs salt gefilte fish divide precisely via the historical sugar beet trade www.npr.org/sections/the...
Knife crime! Pronouns! Meat bans! Some political issues lead to "hotter", more emotional and polarizing debates than others. We show how these "trigger points" reveal a contested structure of moral expectations and how they get weaponized by polarization entrepreneurs. OA @bjsociology.bsky.social 🧵

There is a very common, if false belief that pretty much anyone can get citizenship if they're in the country for long enough. Unfortunately, most people who are undocumented have NO path to permanent legal status.
And in her case, the old removal order (which was withheld) makes it even harder.
Who shapes the landscape of African politics scholarship, and who is missing?

This study shows that disinformation spreads, not as “false facts”, but as narratives. Compare that to how mis- and disinformation are often operationalized in the big-N quantitative and experimental research in the Nature/Science journals — that’s a major weakness in the field.

According to the latest Forbes World's Billionaires List, Europe is home to hundreds of ultra-wealthy individuals, but they are far from evenly distributed.

Update: Today, opt-in online pollster YouGov revealed that bogus respondents biased their 2024 religion survey. Based on this survey, Bible Society's 2025 The Quiet Revival report claimed a massive surge of churchgoing in England and Wales. The report has now been retracted.
Turns out that when every Somali case I have in court suddenly got expedited and reassigned to a new judge, it wasn't just me! The DOJ has officially denied that there is an expedited "Somali Docket," but now the public data refutes their denial. Here are the highlights: 🧵 bklg.org/blog/somali-...

I think part of the reason for this lack of understanding is that in a lot of jobs and fields many people are already accustomed to not actually doing their own work, & having other people do it. And they have such a low opinion of people that they believe machine output can and should replace them.
I don't think we have to just smell it. It's quite literally outsourcing when the folks who train LLMs for U.S. use are exploited people in Kenya. www.404media.co/ai-is-africa...

Dem gedruckten Beitrag vorangestellter Abstract (Englisch): »Die Arbeiter haben kein Vaterland« Zum Verhältnis von Klassenpolitik, Nationalismus und der Frage der Migration Maximilian Pichl The question of migration has been a subject of controversy within social democratic and socialist parties for well over a century. The large increase in labor migration around 1900 caused conflicts within the Second International over how to position itself on the issue. Pro-migrant and restrictionist approaches clashed with each other. These debates exemplify the fundamental relationship between class politics, nationalism, and the issue of migration. In particular, this article shows that restrictionist positions on migration are adopted by social democrats and socialist actors precisely when the nation as a political framework leads to an exclusive understanding of class.
