New paper in Nature, @nature.com (go.nature.com/4c4OjCj) : how do social roles emerge in groups of near-identical individuals ? we find that they are neither predetermined nor fixed.
As a reminder: I am hiring a postdoc and at least one research assistant for a project on VTA circuits and cognitive function that starts this summer. Get in touch if interested!
Very proud to share our most recent work, now out in
@cp-cellreports.bsky.social 🎉🎉🎉
We show that brief noradrenergic signals in the orbitofrontal cortex, triggered by surprising rewards, support reversal learning and predict how quickly animals adapt.

How does the brain build a memory?
A common assumption is that the neurons activated during an experience collectively form the memory engram.
In our new Nature Neuroscience paper (finally out!), we show that this is not the case.

This project brought together Maxime Come’s PhD work and Arnaud Lespart’s postdoctoral work in our lab.
🚨We're hiring a new editor!🚨
We're especially looking for someone with expertise in neurodegeneration and cellular/molecular neuroscience. Must have a Ph.D. and be able to work from Madrid, Shanghai, or Pune. Deadline to apply is March 9.

Possibility for a Eastbio funded PhD in my group at the @rowettinstitute.bsky.social @uniofaberdeen.bsky.social.
This is a highly competitive process: applicants should hold a 1st BSc Honours or 2:1 MSc degree in neuroscience.
A single applicant per project will be interviewed.

It's the Good Will Hunting "How you like dem apples?" meme, but I am Matt Damon and the guy in the bar is reviewer #3. I'm holding up the DOI of my new paper to the window. Suck it reviewer #3!

Really interesting work by Bakhurin and colleagues challenging the reward prediction error hypothesis of dopamine:

I love this figure which both echoes and undermines the famous figure from Schultz et al. (1997).
Pleased to have this review out in @cp-trendsneuro.bsky.social. In it we discuss various aspects of the intersection between foraging behaviors and neuroscience, and offer some future directions: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Imagine being the kind of person with the chutzpah to "explain" to Margaret Atwood what Margaret Atwood meant in The Handmaid's Tale
In September 1919, Escher moved to Haarlem to study architecture. His landlady in Haarlem gifted Escher a white cat, who stayed his pet and companion during his student years. Escher lovingly portrayed his cat in several wood cuts.
