Challenge over Met Police's use of live facial recognition lost The claim was brought over concerns the technology can be used in an arbitrary or discriminatory way.

Were UK Labour to want my opinion, statements like this from ministers would be a good indication of what is wrong with their policies: www.bbc.com/news/article...

Found a trivial silly bug in the #D&DBeyond #Avrae #Discord bot. Joined the development server to report it. Was met with this:

No, I don't think I will, actually.

This is a really pointless and low-effort to find bug, but fuck handing over PII just so I can help their dev team do basic testing.

Pro-tip: do not learn that your passport has one week left on it in Heathrow.

Ah, okay. To be honest it's not even my point, I definitely picked it up somewhere else from someone smarter.

I mean, it was originally an absurd slur for the B1 battle droid, as used by mass-produced child soldiers as a way of distinguishing themselves from the robots.

This is likely overthinking things and given how harmful the AI hype is I don't want to be the one in charge of line drawing.

That said, I've largely abandoned social media except for occasional interesting posts, so I don't actually see that super often. I've mostly seen white people (like me) hypothesising about how non-white people feel, and that's a sample size of one nerd who follows mostly white nerds.

The argument is more that it's weird when white people are quick to adopt terminology deliberately used in a cartoon to kind-of-sort-of evoke slavery imagery in a way that parents wouldn't flip out about. If someone says that as a non-white person me using it makes them suspicious of me I trust that

It feels a little weird how quick people were to gleefully adopt it, especially given the context the term was defined in. That said, most people are not the kind of weirdo that thinks about the morality of sentient combat automata in a fictional universe so I am going to not worry too much for now.

It's a real weird choice to swing this way. Also pretty funny that he uses it "just for review" and it didn't tell him that he's alienating his core readership with this logic.

Wild that Cory Doctorow decided to self-cancel like this. Dude clearly did not know his audience at all.

You know what they say about a table with ten people and one nazi, right?

Because I checked your timeline and I think I know why you don't want the other people at that table to catch some flak.

What I'm learning here is you all need to go mine the book for names for new D&D planes.

Close. It's actually 21 per bear, but an easy mistake to make.

Distinction without a difference stuff, but yeah. It's just picking an arbitrary phrase and using it to pretend you've got some new insight. See also "Abraham's Bosom" doing the rounds in some evangelical circles right now.

That's just basic bible stuff you hear in any branch of Christianity, it's not exactly a deep cut like "how many children can one bear kill at a time?"

Honestly if he could read or speak the last one he'd get at least some respect.

With inflation running wild developers found themselves underwater on properties before they were even finished, meaning vultures are buying up entire estates and turning them into rental units at 2-3 times mortgage rates on the same properties.

You can't outspend billionaires. Tax wealth.

There are blocks of flats I'm aware of in Dublin's docklands that have been sitting at 50% capacity for almost a decade due to this, and the problem of vulture funds buying out landlords who defaulted on loans got so bad that the government pushed a media campaign to rebrand as "cuckoo funds".

Actually it happens in part because if you borrow to buy the property then the value is tied to the expected rent, so if you can't get someone to take it at the rent you told the bank you would get you can't lower the rent or you're instantly in negative equity and lose the property.

It's not a problem isolated to the USA, so your libertarian fantasy solution won't solve it. The actual problem is people having more money than they can ever spend being able to simply buy up the supply and let it sit idle knowing it will still generate profit for them when sold.

Hey @mozilla.org, fuck you for cramming AI bullshit into Firefox. When you give ground to the bullshit nobody want's you're just helping "Reclaim the Internet" for the fucks we're trying to get it back from in the first place.

You can just change the ToS. If you were sorry you would do that. Otherwise just STFU TBH.

It's got the same kind of weird discourse around it, which muddies the water.

Sometimes there's this, and then sometimes there's stuff like MW5:Clans, where even story mode is almost impossible unless you jank the system in silly ways that undermine the experience that the game is trying to give you.

I think that might actually be a Sherman with some form of big gun mounted in the turret ring. The shape of the mudguards looks right and the HVSS suspension is really distinctive. No idea what the gun is though.

Given his history with cheating so blatant and stupid that even the Daily Mail called him out for it I think it's pretty fair to say her being black isn't necessarily why he hates her. Or at least not the *only* reason.

It'd be a terrible shame if someone noticed that they aren't checking for URL encoded special characters in their free text fields.
