Alcohol intolerance, also called ALDH2 deficiency, is a genetic condition that makes it hard for some people to break down a chemical from alcohol called acetaldehyde.

When you drink alcohol, it boosts GABA (a calming brain chemical) and blocks glutamate (which stimulates brain activity). This combination of more calming signals and fewer stimulating signals is why alcohol can temporarily reduce pain.

The FDA fired its tobacco enforcers. Now it wants them back. The agency asked laid-off workers to return after gutting the office that penalizes stores for selling tobacco to minors.

The FDA is asking laid-off employees to temporarily return after mass cuts decimated the agency’s ability to penalize stores that sell cigarettes and vapes to minors.
