There was some talk on Nextdoor of enabling residents to do brush clearing, if they wanted to, on city right of ways and parkland. I suggested they host events similar to beach cleanups and make it festive, but just allowing it would be a good start. Many of us already do this for fire safety.

I've been enjoying walking in PVE after dark. It's so delightful to live in a town where one can do that.

There is also some talk of trying to find funding to widen the 1-lane portion of PVDrWest between the Douglas Cut and Malaga Cove.
In brighter firefighting news today, the city of RPV has invested in a Helopod, which is a high capacity, quick-fill water source for helicopter water scoops in fighting a fire (when aircraft can fly).

So Christine McNamara just sits there while people tell her how disgraceful she is. It takes a certain kind of person to prefer that humiliation to making incremental, democratic changes.
The point was made that not only is the current board self-appointed, but they themselves were appointed by unelected self-appointers. A bit pathetic.
The lack of democratic process truly is embarrassing. The board president must really think she wouldn't win in a fair election.
As expected, the board president chose not to open them. Several people commented requesting a count, and expressing disappointment or embarrassment for the board members, and making the simple request that the ballots be counted and highest counts be seated.
The PVHA held its annual meeting by Zoom today. Just shy of 900 ballots were received.

This is still a small group but have any of you read the CC&Rs and Bylaws that govern PVE and Miraleste properties?
Brian, I know you have!
But I'm always curious to know how people received these, when, in what form, and if they read them. Ask your friends!

Wonderful place that everyone should know about. There is a Wednesday farmers market there, 12-2pm, excluding holidays.
Only because he responds to a mutual benefit corp complaint saying he doesn't interact on HOA issues.
I'd love to see the 1960s, 1980s, and 2000s prices. I know the 60s fees were nominal, because I saw permits in my family's historic paperwork. They were just a few dollars. The newer fees are arbitrary and sometimes designed to discourage people from interaction.
I'm not a gym person, but this is a shout-out to Fitness19. It's just a "machines and weights" gym, no yoga or classes, but the clientele is diverse, from teens to 102 years old. It's a comfortable, nonjudgmental spot. My trainer, Rebecca Mantei, is excellent.
If you live in PVE or Miraleste, ask your friends and neighbors if they've read the CC&Rs attached to their property. I'll bet they haven't.
I'm considering creating an educational slide show on these, because I find them fascinating and rather misunderstood.

And if you feel the urge, make a monthly donation. They do some of the hard work that keeps this area alive.
Yes, if you vote twice they say they'll toss the paper ballot. Makes sense I think, although I'd personally probably opt for the paper ballot.
I find Merriman River Group to be quite technically 'immature' in their apps, and I'm surprised groups use them. Highly hackable.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy works to protect and restore open space on the peninsula. They also run a nursery that generates about 48,000 plants per year. You can buy plants at their plant sales, or by online request.

It never gets old
The annual office budget was about $110k in 1980. Based on inflation, it should be about $400k now. Is it twice that now, or more?
The PVHA claims it's not accountable to standard HOA law, which must align with the Davis-Stirling Act for homeowners associations. The Attorney General doesn't appear to agree.
By my records, the fees the PVHA charges now are about 7 times inflation. Fees were originally nominal and the office was not used as a profit center.
If you are voting online, note that board member McNamara has demanded that something called a Transfer Date be used to verify your property ownership. This is obviously not necessary for a legal, normal voting process.
But the dates the PVHA have on file are often wrong/random!

If you are a PVE or Miraleste resident, I encourage you to vote for Pressman and Rhodes only in the PVHA Board election. I'll post a few reasons in comments.
