Four tiles showing a tomato with chlorosis in upper left, a squash with powdery mildew in the upper right, broccoli with necrotic leaves on the lower left, and a pepper leaf with spots and mild chlorosis on the bottom right.
We're hiring a plant pathologist! Looking for someone w/passion for diagnosing vegetable diseases & communicating results to clients. There's lots of other duties & opportunities. I also think it's a great lab 🤔☺️

Last week @huntercollins.bsky.social Kelly Avila and Carlos Morales represented the lab at the #sweetpotato collaborators meeting. They shared research of postharvest diseases, insect vectors, and pathogen surveys 🍠 @aps-ph.bsky.social @aps-oip.bsky.social
Busy morning planning our 2025 field season! this year @huntercollins.bsky.social will have watermelons 🍉 , cabbage 🥬 , peppers 🫑 , cucumbers 🥒 , and sweetpotato 🍠 to test disease management options for NC vegetable growers @plantdisease.bsky.social

Jan 1, and my first day as an Asst. Professor at Berkeley. The lab opens in just a few weeks and I am currently staffing at all levels- www.lotuslofgren.com/new-page-1
He was amazing, I was very sad to hear these news
Sad news. John McDowell has passed away. He was not only a brilliant scientist, he was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He worked hard, did a tremendous job in plant pathology and was a wonderful colleague. He is gone way too soon.

Happy holidays! We hope you have a wonderful time with your loved ones 🎄 @kellyam24.bsky.social @smcochranmurray.bsky.social #GiantLabPickle 🥒
I would add, just no work after hours, and if you must clearly state “I don’t expect work after hours so please ignore this until work hours”. Ok to work at your rhythm but is good to clarify is not and expectation. I discourage work after hours in my lab, good time budgetting skills are best 👍

Dear PIs: Don't work on weekends & holidays.
And if you do, don't brag about it.
It's NOT cool. It reflects a bad set of values that promote unhealthy work-balance practices in the team you lead.
You're an example for your students and colleagues, live up to it.
I hear you, it took me years before it felt “right” to have an international travel and an equipment budget line in my budgets 😂 but now I can tell you, just do it! add every budget line you can justify for max flexibility in completing projects 😉
I do $3k domestic, $6k international per person when possible
Nothing to see here.
We had the PSI and our lab’s holiday parties. It was a fun and productive year and I am grateful for everyone in my lab, they are a wonderful team in every way. If we don’t catch you before the year ends, the Giant Lab Pickle and the lab wish you very happy holidays! @kellyam24.bsky.social
It was really great to spend quite a bit of time with Dr. Peter Oudemans from Rutgers University at GLEXPO 2024, it was also nice to hear of all of the #blueberry #diseases he helps manage in New Jersey. #bluedynamo🫐
