That'd be brilliant

The crime busters of the sea!
I used to do this! They call it the Hobbit song and it's nostalgic to them π€
Erm, Tory MP Saqib Batty? One of Sir Michael Take's colleagues I hope.
Met some local designers the other day and I forgot just how overprotective newer designers are of their games - one asked if he needs a lawyer!
Easy to forget how common a concern that is. And it only holds games back from getting the love & attention they deserve from a variety of playtesters
Post a gif from your favourite film from the year you turned 18.
Again, if you have a Substack, the best time to switch away was months ago -- but today's the second best time.
You want to try getting on the boardgame design feed here: bsky.app/profile/vick...
I mean, I suppose it could be a video game too if you want it to be π
No. I've thought about this a bit and I think a board game is characterised by being a transparent system. At least that's my theory!
It's got me thinking about retheming the USA version. It's such a neat 2-player game it'd be a shame not to get it to a wider audience as a boxed game. (And who wants to relive that election...)
Someone contacted me offering to make a version of Poll & Write for their country. It seems a great idea and I had expected it to happen. It's definitely a malleable system.
Played whist with my partner and her cousin a few years ago. Because we're British, and they were not in a serious-adults-playing-a-game mood, every time trump was mentioned, fart was understood. Giggling ensued.
Otherwise there are lots of little things to smooth out development-wise, but I'm generally happy and moving on to proper component design and thinking more in depth about graphics etc. It's a nice place to be after 3-4 years of work! π²βοΈ
3. Confrontation system (ie combat) needs review. Generally works but need to make sure it's not so easy to predict the outcome. Possibly! (Articulating the issue is difficult which is revealing...)
2. I want to redesign the Radical's player board actions. Generally happy with the mechanics though.
The last few playtests and iterations of the dwarf game have been productive. Snippet of a design diary...
Key issues/puzzles at the moment are:
1. Laws and lobbying: I'm not quite happy with how frequently players engage with the laws, especially in the 2-player game.
I said "yes" to this chaps board game for review, almost entirely due to his unashamed stance on art being art and Ai being not.
That poster absolutely rules.
Still have to play the game, i hope its good.
Anarchist answer: the actually good aspect of that world is the utopian autonomy humans have. We should build that world in our everyday actions rather than dream of it for our descendants.
I suppose you want to set the premise that Minds are possible. Benevolent hyper-intelligent machine life.
Quirky answer: we should make sure that we live our most moral existence so that when the AI comes to being it doesn't want to immediately destroy us. Amusingly similar to a religion.
I'll have to re-read them for the ship names alone!
#OtD 6 Apr 1871 Paris communards seized the local guillotine and burned it as a symbol of "monarchist domination". While some today glorify the guillotine, it has mostly been used by the powerful against workers, like Nazi Germany who beheaded 16,000 shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/...
It's Sunday! π
Happily, the British standard is an en dash with spaces either side β I've started using it recently when I realised I could do it on my phone keyboard too.
Middle child has made it nearly twice since the board (including a short spell in jail) before getting an opportunity to buy her first property, Bond Street.
Update: middle child did not give the dog away easily, but the youngest has it now.
She started with a double, bought a few properties, had a bank error on her favour. Beginner's luck.
Middle child has never played Monopoly proper, so she's getting it out. The fights have begun β youngest is crying about not getting the dog piece.
I know the tweet is Al generated when they use " ," before and.
βI will NOT sacrifice the Oxford comma. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They assimilate the em dash and we fall back. They capture βnot just X but yβ and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!β
Nope! Octagons work pretty well for these mines! I like the empty space to play with!
