my opinion on "shoplifiting is good" is that it's a position you can take which is at least somewhat defensible and which REALLY annoys a certain type of person so if you're into having that kind of argument you should say it loudly and proudly

hell yes, my orange cat is on the way home from the hospital after a near-death experience and I have the rest of my day booked for real little sweetie hours
this is horrifying, senior engineers are supposed to tell you to "just read the man page" and then the man page is incomprehensible so you have to google it and find the one guy on stack overflow who posted an extremely detailed solution to your specific problem in 2009 and got three upvotes
I've been going back and forth between panicking like "oh no these young guys are Claude Coding circles around me, I'm too old for this, I'm washed" and then on the other hand in a few years I'm gonna be the only person left at my company who actually knows how to mount a filesystem
how did I know this was Spike Lee before I clicked on the picture or read the original post. I don't even really know what he looks like but somehow I instantly knew it was him.
fascism has come to America and I didn't lay down my life to fight it because I'm a bit of a coward and also I have a family and I could produce any number of other excuses. many such cases. but at least I can admit that, you know?
there's also a fascinating thing here where people are like "well if fascism came to America I would lay down my life to fight it" and so implicitly the fact that they have not yet stopped posting and taken up the sword implies that it's not really that bad yet
I have never heard this one before but I believe it instantly
what if it was specifically owners of Chinese restaurants, figuring that some people might stop eating their food, but the allure of the forbidden foreign salt would make it tantalizing enough that it would increase their sales overall
ok nice, thanks, I will absolutely be checking them out!
hmm, yeah, I think it's probably unobtainable here on the west coast at this point. do you recommend any of their other sours? it looks like I can get buzzer beater or the sour patch kids one at bevmo.
a sentence so incomprehensible to me that I was compelled to google it, and now I have a new beer I want to try
this is one of those posts where my instinctive response is to contradict it just to be a dick but I am physically incapable of claiming that John Goodman is a bad actor
also I try not to make posts like that because they're annoying, but that's not the main reason
or actually, maybe it's the opposite? maybe I buy groseries from the groshry store? now I'm getting in my head about it and I don't know anything anymore.
wait you're right, I never noticed this before but this is me too. I buy groshries from the grosery store. what's up with that.
one of the reasons SAAS is such a great business model is that the people who sign the checks are not the people who actually use the software so it doesn't matter if it sucks ass as long as you can put together a good demo
Also like, how the lockdown felt depended so much on your circumstances? I was living with my wife at the time. We got to hang out and play a lot of board games, it was kind of nice for us. If it had happened while I was living alone, or (god forbid) with roommates, I would have lost my mind.
sorta feels like we lost the battle on "can chemical companies dump toxic shit in the river as long as the drinking water is mostly fine" and now we're losing the war on "can a few billionaires dump random shit into space that may make the planet uninhabitable if they fuck up bad enough"
tfw you're a computer nerd who thinks math is the ultimate inviolable truth and those jerks in the mathematics faculty make formal logic a required course for your major and then you learn about the incompleteness theorems
"no man is an island". ok but what if they were. have we tried that one yet.
Not for nothing that in both of Trump's electoral victories he was, at least in terms of public perception, the candidate representing change!
the classic Asimov story "The Feeling of Power" is feeling more relevant by the day
ah but I think you'll find it was a savvy manuever that prevented the Republicans from whining incessantly about ACORN for the rest of Obama's presidency
usually this type of render has a hard time depicting the eyes but somehow they captured Jimmy's perfectly here
my wife once got invited to hang out with a friend at a lesbian bar called The Truck Stop but she selected the wrong destination in google maps and ended up at an actual truck stop
based on watching my 2-year-old attempt to pet a cat, I'm a bit skeptical that you were that good at rubbing when you were very young
on a related note I have been really enjoying @rangedtouch.bsky.social's discussion of allegory vs applicability in their Lord of the Rings series
there are lots of movies where the villain is shown hurting innocent people in order to establish their villainy, and in a way all of them are about Israel if you think about it
based on the last several years my understanding is that a ceasefire is when you bomb them somewhat less than usual
