🧵Don’t let anyone tell you you’re a bad mother for wanting the world to be a better place.

The family belongs to all of us.

The family belongs to all of us, we will not let fascist dictate and grossly distort the ideas and values of parenting and caregiving.

We reject the notion that having young children means that we must never speak or act on issues of concern to us and our families. We cannot abide a society that demands adherence to fascism on the basis of our parenthood - especially motherhood.

Reneé Good was practicing that by patrolling and protecting her neighbors from ICE.

Parents, caregivers, and mothers specifically have every right to be politically engaged in their community.

Fascists are questioning Reneé Good’s right to be in public or participate in her community as a mother of young children. This is antithetical to our values as parents and caregivers. In a caring humane society, caregiving extends to our whole community.

The United States Government and ICE shot an American in the face three times. It should begin and end with that horrible fact. But days after the brutal murder of Reneé Good, we’ve seen cruel attempts to smear her and question her motherhood.

I’m thinking back to when I first joined @socialists.nyc in 2018 & felt like my life was in a pretty different place than lots of the younger folks I was organizing with.

On May Day, we celebrate all working parents and uplift the unpaid labor of many caregivers. We deserve so much more than this capitalist system. We deserve living wages, leisure, and universal programs.
