Lisbon was great btw. The best time to visit might have been a decade ago I guess, but there's still something a bit magic about it; you just have to put in a bit more effort to find it. Kind of like Venice in a way, although topographically its complete opposite.

Last time I got back home from abroad it basically didn't rain for five months. It's looking like the same thing might happen again. (This is probably bad, but it feels good right now.)
Didn't know this existed, but (a) lol, and (b) most stuff I like went out in the first round, and I'd probably have bailed by day 3. [am I out of touch meme]
Is it bad that I saw something the other day that made me think "there's no way I can vote for this party", but I've already forgotten what it was? Either I'm getting old or there's officially too much news. Probably both I guess.
I suppose the duration of Terrible Stuff doesn't help. Posting trivial things feels a bit inappropriate somehow (and was also a bit passé by about 2011 anyway, more's the pity), but there's only so much you can say about Terrible Stuff. I don't really know what to say here most of the time.
Yeah, I decided on my uni 25 years ago because the red brick campus looked nice in the sun. I'd probably still do the same now to be honest.
I can't really begrudge Coventry having good stuff, but is every indiepop band just gonna play Just Dropped In and skip Birmingham completely from now on? It was already pretty hit and miss here, but recently we're getting nothing.
Crazy. What a nightmare situation. I don't know or understand all the details, and probably never will, but this seems like something that... shouldn't be possible?

Oh man, Liza Tarbuck leaving her show is a bit of a disaster. It was the perfect Saturday evening show, and the last place on Radio 2 (possibly radio generally) where you could hear something from the 1930s played, without fuss, next to something from last year. I'll miss it a lot.
Ah, that makes sense. I'll have a look at 6am some time! To be fair I kind of admire the dedication to work/life balance to only open three nights a week when there's so much demand.
In the unlikely event that the Riverine Rabbit folks read this: I've heard it's good PR to offer spots to everyone who lives within, uh... (*checks google maps*)... 300m of the restaurant.
Ok, am I missing something obvious here, or is it pretty much impossible to get a reservation at Rabbit? I've been looking quite often and it's always full, even three months ahead, and I'm guessing it's only going to get worse.
Yeah, to be honest the whole thing is a bit disturbing to me. I mean, I'm not expecting prison to be _nice_, but prisoners killing each other is a massive failure, not something to celebrate.
This is great! Loads of places I don't know, but a few I do know and love (Osteria da Filo is the most fun, chill place I've found to hang out there), so I can feel confident about the new recommendations and will most certainly check them out. Thanks in advance. ;)
That doesn't mean the outcomes are predictable, but we have a lot to go on if we want to attempt to predict them, whereas there used to be a time where the tournament would frequently throw up matches where I had no idea what to expect at all. It's a sad loss.
Yep, mystique is the thing. There are still great matches in this competition, and I don't doubt that some of these ties will be entertaining too, but most of these teams play each other so often that there aren't really any unknowns any more.
I'm sure this is entirely unfair on Kamel, but the format of the new Green Party leaflet instantly made me think of Insincere Dave from Digitiser and it just made me laugh out loud.
I think the sheer breadth of things here is important. Even if you aren't enraged about every thing on this list, there's likely to at least one thing you care passionately about and feel genuine anger and disappointment about.
Eat Vietnam is one those places where I actually wish the portions of everything were smaller; I usually want literally everything off the specials board as well as a couple of things from the main menu, but even half of that is way more than I can actually eat.
Waverley is worse I think, but there's not much you can do with that one. The frustrating thing with New Street is that it's fundamentally so simple (platforms nicely lined up in numerical order), but they've made such bizarre decisions on the concourse level that make it seem really complicated.
Think twice about doing it themselves?
Probably varies a lot depending on the area, but Bologna at least the dogs don't really seem any better behaved than in a UK city these days (whereas 10 years ago there was a clear difference)
Do you think it's getting worse there though? In the UK I think not that much has changed in the last decade, but in Italy I see a lot more bad behaviour than I used to.
It really is just a vocal handful of people (including, ironically, the owner of the main local veterinary group) that support it there. For the rest it's an annoyance at best, and most of them genuinely love animals - all animals - so don't like the hunts at all.
Yep, definitely. I grew up in a rural area, my family still live there; my mum has had horses all her life and knows pretty much everyone in the horsey community within 20 miles. The vast majority hate hunting!
Maybe that's my fault, who knows? I haven't gone to much effort to get in touch or look up anything he's said. But I heard a lot more from Steve McCabe without going to any great lengths.
(Maybe it doesn't help that he's quite a lot more active on Twitter than on here.)
The fact that he's my MP and yet I have absolutely zero opinion about him probably isn't a good sign. I've never seen him, never seen anything from him, have no real idea what he stands for (despite it being quite a eventful year in the area).
Come on you are just making this up now
