In hindsight (no wordplay intended!), Gord was disrespected there, but it wasn’t the best time for Kilbo. Moore made a couple more albums, but I think she’s a visual artist now. I recorded a cover of one of her songs but wasn’t able to track her down to tell her about it.

The only thing worse is probably the Met Gala.
With all due respect to any half decent acts that play at it, but Coachella really does seem like one of the most annoying occurrences in the history of the universe – annually.
Yeah, "conscious" was the other thing I heard, but I prefer to imagine Ryan's moral scruples being everlasting. I think probably no one at the ad agency noticed it because they don't know what they're doing, which is common these days!
There's a Tim Hortons ad for a Ryan Reynolds maple donut. In it, he sends his consciousness into the future to boast about how people still eat it. But the dialogue says "conscience." Leaving aside the size of that mistake, is Ryan Reynolds humanity's maple-hued conscience? I sure as hell hope not.
Jane Austen lives and wants to help promote my work!
Loving the enthusiasm from Jane Austen for a book I didn’t write, but I’m sorry to say, Jane, I’m not really a fan of your work.
I’ll be going to Toronto for this, but you can watch it on YouTube, so no excuses.
If my fellow middle-aged men would like to be taken seriously, maybe try acting less like a confused, hormone-ridden 14-year-old. That would be a start. It’s pathetic.
I wonder if it will get that good. I guess we’ll find out. Discerning readers will always seek out the real thing anyway.
Unfortunately, schmucks don't realize how easy it is to detect AI-assisted writing and editing. Like, painfully easy. I am seeing lots of full novels written partially by a computer, and they lack anything distinctive or soulful or actually human.
The best rock band in the world today has a brand-new album.

Growing up means starting by thinking as a kid that ‘Star Wars’ is a masterpiece but eventually realizing ‘Alien’ is the true masterpiece.
One of my favorite music stories is Steve Kilbey of The Church producing Mae Moore. She or her label wanted Gord Downie, Canada's most popular rock singer and later a national icon, on a guest vocal. He was like, "I don't know who he is and I don't like it," so he buried Downie way down in the mix.
That’s definitely true!
One thing I’ve always appreciated about vintage 80s Clannad is their willingness to bung shit tons of reverb onto their vocals, thus creating a very ethereal effect. I think this influenced me!
In honor of the passing of Moya Brennan we've put up her last performance on Echoes from 2017 playing mostly music from her album, Canvas, and a Clannad classic. It's up on the Echoes Website. echoes.org/2026/04/15/m... @clannad.bsky.social
Thrilled to be reading in-person in this ongoing series that does so much to promote literary writers. May 13, Toronto!
First time out on his harness this year.
Social media has always been sort of a koan: if a person typed 240 characters on a microblogging site and no one read them, did those thoughts ever exist?
Das ist sehr gute Musik zum Schreiben und Bearbeiten!
One of my favorites too. 80s Clannad is the best. A big loss.
One of my favorites among her renditions. youtu.be/qqXk7Fgxbtk?...
I wonder if Canada is moving toward becoming a one-party state - one big party that stands for nothing at all and just governs to collude with the corporate world. Sort of what existed before but with one party instead of several.
Great to see. I was Chris’s first editor wayyyyy back!
I hope the people of Hungary understand that they have given us all a little bit of hope today.
Carney saying anyone is welcome in his party as long as they support Liberal/liberal values makes sense, since the only tenet of liberalism is ‘you have the brawn/I have the brains/let’s make lots of money.’
I probably have 100 saved on Criterion alone. I’ll never get to them all.

Tonight’s viewing. A rare sci-fi film that is smart and compelling and not corny at all, albeit bleak.
Back from a lovely social media hiatus to hip you to this absolutely beautiful modern classical piece by Klaus Lang, which ambient music fans will love too. One of the least...um...challenging, shall we say, listens on the Kairos label, but very stimulating.
