An update on our fuel situation.
Challenges may still remain ahead, but the actions we’ve taken will ensure we’re better prepared.

While events overnight internationally are encouraging, there is a long way to go. But we now have more fuel in Australia than we had at the beginning of this international crisis, with government and industry working closely together.
There are currently 61 oil tankers on the water on the way to Australia (4 more than this time last week) and 4.1 billion litres of fuel contracted to arrive over the next four weeks.
Today's weekly fuel supply update:
We now have
⛽️ 46 days supply of petrol in Australia (up 8 days on last week)
⛽️ 31 days of diesel (steady)
✈️ 30 days of jet fuel (up 2 days).
It will be directed to the industries and regions where it is needed most.
We're working every day to maintain Australia's fuel security.
Yesterday the Albanese Labor Government announced that an additional 100 million litres of diesel fuel has been secured for our country.
Two shipments of 50 million litres each will arrive from Brunei and South Korea in May and is additional to the existing, contracted supply we normally receive.

There's a lot of talk about drilling for oil at the moment.
Those decisions should be determined by economics and engineering, not ideology.
From my interview on 7.30 last night
Encouragingly, service station outages have fallen over the Easter weekend, with 94% of service stations in NSW having diesel and 97-98% in other states. But there is more work to be done.
Thank you to everyone who has worked over Easter to get the fuel into regional Australia in particular.
We're working to maintain Australia's fuel security.
We continue to see ships arriving with no ships being cancelled and supply now guaranteed through April and into May.
Making sure your tyre pressures are good and driving on eco mode are small things that can make a big difference to your fuel efficiency along the way.
It's important to fill up only when you need to and take what you normally would.

✅ Increase our powers to secure fuel for our nation.
✅ Increase our supply by relaxing standards and unlocking 20% of our reserves.
✅ Prioritised this increase in supply to regional communities, where it is needed most.
Ships are still arriving to Australia.
We know that issues in regional distribution remain. That's why we've acted to:
It's important to buy what you need, no more and no less.
We have enacted targeted policies to make sure the fuel can get going to places it is needed.
We're working to ensure that Australia remains fuel secure.
We currently have enough fuel in Australia for everyone's needs, but we're seeing an increase in demand which has meant our supply chain has struggled to keep up.
We've acted to maintain Australia's fuel security.
Whether it's increasing supply, enhancing our fuel security powers, reducing the cost of fuel or cracking down on price gouging, Aussies know we've got their backs.
We will not wait for a crisis to deepen before we act.
We will prepare for what may come, and we will act ahead of the curve.
What we do today will shield Australians from the challenges of tomorrow.
This global crisis continues to present new national challenges, which is why we will continue to take new national action.
Establishing this Strategic Reserve is in our national interest, now, and in the future.
Our Bill to increase our fuel security powers has just passed in the lower house.
This will allow the Government to step in and help source extra cargo, offer guarantees and direct that fuel exactly where it needs to go.
We've acted to maintain Australia's fuel security.
Today we go one step further and put to parliament our plan to increase our fuel security powers.
It will allow the Government to step in and help source extra cargo, offer guarantees and direct that fuel exactly where it needs to go.
This means:
✅ The Government can step in to help fuel suppliers source extra cargo from international markets.
✅ The Government can offer loans, guarantees and contracts to get deals done fast.
✅ Extra fuel will be directed to the regions and communities that need it most.
Our new Fuel Security Powers will give help make sure we have the fuel we need to keep our country moving.
