Yesterday I was kicked out of Wetherspoon. Not because I kicked off or anything, but because I’d brought my cat, (I’d just got off a train so stopped there for a rest break). No fault to them there, rules are rules. But I’m still angry with them for taking steak off the menu.

I’m thinking of taking my son to see the RSC stage adaptation of My Neighbour Totoro for his birthday next month. This is a surprise, but he’s 7 turning 8, so does not have a Bluesky account

I’m rewatching some mid series of Star Trek Deep Space Nine. I’m loving the Ferengi episodes especially, but I’m so reminded of how Cop Landlords was the greatest joke in the entirety of Lower Decks, and that’s a very high bar to reach

Output from a Python program that generates work sheets based on nuisance from my son’s school math curriculum

I got sent my 7-year-old’s new math curriculum, and home support guidance so I made a Python program: generates multiplication & division problems, randomised encouragement, and XP to save for Robux or whatever. Couldn’t settle on a title, so I randomise from a list of 20… all thoroughly cringe.

So a Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller can be persuaded to calculate and render out Mandelbrot using Python without too much bother at all

I think Uber might be having a bit of a wobble today. I got some refunds through for trips I rated 5* without asking. A driver didn’t show up, but picked someone else up across the city. And I got a pet uber that wasn’t communicated to the driver that I was bringing a cat. They were chill though

I genuinely must apologise to my parents. They were correct. The perfect bolognaise includes anchovies fillets

Put them in mine tonight. It was a total game changer

I've been a little worried about my laptop today, it's been making really loud noises just doing basic things, like was it overheating? After searching for the issue for about 30 minutes, turns out that my house's water heater had kicked in.. 😭

Hanging out with my 7yo boy. Watching some Lowe Decks. I suggested another Star Trek show, but he insisted since this was his ā€œOGā€

Eugh. I so need to deactivate my Twitter account. I keep on getting notifications of likes on my posts, but it's all bots, and they are ancient posts

Absolutely! I think it's clear that we have different perspectives here. And that's fine and healthy

1 year ago 2 0 0 0

I am saying it will be read that way by others, I know if I said that to folks who I lead they would read it as "I should work longer to succeed". I see your perspective, however, I think it might be clouded by your own experiences. Which is fine. But should not be immune to being called up about

Why? I don’t exist in that ecosystem anymore and never will. Past me was a dumbass to comply anyway

It’s important to be mindful of our words and not risk encouraging burnout with aspirational language. Saying people shouldn’t do all-nighters ever should not be controversial

Honestly, I don’t doubt that. But we must be careful not to imply otherwise! I now run a zero-crunch studio, but in the last 10 years, I’ve worked at places where that wasn’t the culture. That’s not a healthy environment, that’s collective self-harm! And we need to enthusiastically set an example

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

I have to challenge this. Romanticizing crunch is unhealthy. Now that we're older and people look up to us, we should set good examples and be strict about work/life balance. When we crunched, self-imposed or not, it wasn’t virtuous, it was a mistake.

I am loving using the Chinese app Xiaohongshu/RedNote that folks are flocking to

It's so super wholesome, and I've mostly been using it for food recipes for which it has never failed to deliver!

Turned 41 yesterday. Grabbed a bottle of wine to share with my parents tonight - got carded at checkout. Apparently, I still pass for under 25? I'll take the win. šŸ·šŸ˜

More Star Trek Voyager. Closing out season 4 now. Love that this new starship set is shamelessly redressed between scenes and has breakfast table stools appear for some shots for some reason

Star Trek Voyager s03e23 Living Witness. Neelix is pictured in a security uniform

Star Trek Voyager s03e23 Living Witness. Neelix is pictured in a security uniform

In my ongoing rewatch of Star Trek Voyager. I've noticed this ongoing running gag where in all the worst timelines, Neelix is in security. Either this means when the going gets tough, they get that desperate. Or you need to keep Neelix away from security at all cost! It will result in bad things!
