My coworkers and I took LA metro from LAX to Pasadena. it took a while but was probably more comfortable than driving through stop-and-go traffic.

i've talked to one person who has a mononym, and their passport looks like this: s.ai/name/sai_pas...

(the X is the sex marker, not given name)

rude

in the us it would go in the surname field as well, iirc that is required by icao standards. the forename field would be empty though, just entirely blank.

my guess with no evidence as to how that could come about is time. ISPs in wealthy countries set up earlier, then never bothered to update. ISPs in less wealthy countries set up later when faster, cheaper hardware was available and their networks could be made of somewhat future-proof fibre.

i probably would have put TIFF higher, though it's somewhat of a specialized image format at this point (i would probably only use it for satellite images with GeoTIFF or raw images with DNG or one of far too many proprietary formats)

Cousin marriage is legal without restriction in many countries, but sibling marriage is much more restricted, even if sterile. I have found some claims of countries allowing same-sex sibling or half-sibling marriage, but searched their laws and could not find any evidence.

i guess in the US people are more used to very overt displays, e.g. children must pledge their fealty to the country every day and there are huge military displays at sports events.

I suspect I will never stop using a us querty-like layout even if i move, i'm just so used to compose keys for accents in latin and latin-based IMEs for scripts where needed

I also can't find any info about how emergency alerts work in Palestine. Paltel has their operations center in Ramallah, but the core is in either the UK or Jordan (they claimed to have moved it, but I can't tell) because Israel wouldn't let them import the equipment for the core.

afaict the emergency broadcast system is SMS-based text only. Paltel only operates GSM in Gaza due to Israeli restrictions, so I doubt there's some new audio protocol.

it's not cringe if you have an ASN and are using it to name routers

unfortunately it can be very hard to tell which will be best before reading some part of it. e.g. i watched tensura first, then later read the books and learned quite a lot of stuff the author had considered that didn't make it into the anime.

ime the more enjoyable of the light novel/manga/anime adaptation of a story depends a lot on what kinds of details the author included, the plot (e.g. i don't really like long descriptions of fighting in light novels, but they're more enjoyable in manga or anime), and the quality of the adaptation.

I was cursed by watching the anime of "the executioner and her way of life" first instead of the light novel, so once i reached the end of the anime i wasn't sure how to proceed. I really like the novel take on the isekai trope in it.

some friends went there for a competition years ago, but the next year when I went they had moved it to Beijing.

i looked it up around then and PIT-CGO was an absolute pain, i suspect some of the players flew to PEK then took a train

NYC Planning ZoLa New York City's Zoning & Land Use Map

nyc has some very complicated zoning rules (see map at zola.planning.nyc.gov) but manages to not be entirely suburbs

there is still a fair amount of area limited to detached single-family houses though

PayPal has a banking license in Luxembourg which they may use to act as an acquiring bank for EUR, but they are not licensed to act as a bank anywhere else. For that they contract with existing banks, likely on their GDPR third party information sharing list: www.paypal.com/lu/legalhub/...
