This whole "IPv8" shenanigans is a microcosm of the AI-fueled and accelerated slop that's making much of the internet meaningless to use. What was once basic content-farming is now factory-fuelled, industrial-grade never-ending slop.

To (almost) come back full circle, the thought-leaders™️ over on LinkedIn have picked up on this and seemingly running with it.

A DuckDuckGo results page showing numerous technical news outlets reporting uncritically on the joke IP version 8 draft specification.

That hasn't stopped a whole lot of outlets from writing uncritically about it regardless.

Like, this line alone is an incredible April fools joke published 2 weeks late.

30 second of due diligence on this "draft" reveals it to be likely AI generated slop. Name doesn't correspond to anything and sourced to other works by this "author" 404.

The amount of professionals taking that IPv8 draft spec seriously on LinkedIn is hilarious (and embarrassing).

For comparison, the JCPOA ('Iran Deal') payment that everyone in MAGA excoriates was $1.7bn.

The $2m-per-ship toll regime on the Strait would generate at normal traffic something like $40bn *each year* for Iran (120 ships per day at $2m per split 50/50 with Oman).
