seeing the S.S. Anne beached and the Pewter Museum covered in volcanic ash and Sabrina's gym flying away definitely helped me understand how huge Dragon Quest fans felt when they played Dragon Quest Builders and saw Rimuldar's poisoned moat and Cantlin with no walls and Tantegel covered in darkness

I love that! they are different games and can co-exist, I think it's very cool and cute that Pokopia doesn't have combat

but I do think most of what people love about it (freedom of expression guided by quests, snowball effect of small rewards, fostering community & pride in builds) is carried over

I have to somehow just make peace with the fact that this many people never played Dragon Quest Builders 2, or I'll get an ulcer from reading "what Animal Crossing can learn from Pokopia" & "the next Animal Crossing needs to step it up"

maybe there's a little something there as far as a visual shorthand for hachimaki or the kinds of bandanas that Japanese sushi chefs and fishmongers wore, but I genuinely think this might just be another case of "that's how Dragon Quest did it so that's how we're doing it"
