SWHFTT‼️‼️SUNDAY‼️‼️
67. Born to Nova forced to Well
ok actually done now god i have a lot of dragon age thoughts
grin and bear with someone randomly and blatantly insulting the shit out of them and their culture. the story relies on the MC being passive enough to make the point it’s trying to make, but not allowing the MC to react accordingly, thus undercutting the entire message
Chosen One Blank Canvas i should say.
point is, it’s not as impactful when your story has to rely entirely on not knowing who your MC is or where they came from or simply not caring, so it comes off awkward.
like when morrighan elfsplains to a Dalish Inquisitor or a qunari has to just
not so much for a game that wants to discuss inequality, classism, and revolution.
i will scream into infinity that Hawke should have been the protag going forward, just based on the nature of how games are made and the story that Dragon Age was setting up. doing a Chosen One story is fine for games like Skyrim…
adding to this—the Blank Canvas Hero simply does not work. Origins worked because you had time to learn who your character was and where they came from, and in the end, even that isn’t a Blank Canvas.
[continues to scream into the void about dragon age]
imho, the issue started with Inquisition, and will continue so long as there’s such a wide gap between the story and world Origins setup and 2 built on, and what bioware/EA decided to go with in Inquisition and Veilguard
dragon age veilguard was a disappointment in every category for me, but that doesn’t mean the team didn’t do their best work with what they had. i think if it was any game except dragon age, it would’ve been far better received—and would have a shot at continuing into its own series.
anyway what’s everyone’s brand of autism mine is annoying
like damn bitch can’t you just write the fanfic and be happy with it nooooo she’s gotta obsess over canon compliance and have questions that reddit argues over
the way i wish i had a more legitimate reason to pick apart @davidgaider.bsky.social’s brain on dragon age lore that wasn’t just “i’m writing a fanfiction that i’m taking far too seriously”
the downfall of the DA franchise started when EA ran scared from DA2 and canceled the additional DLC. DAI winning goty hurt whatever chances the series could’ve had going forward imho because EA will always learn the wrong lessons.
a picture of an white cat that is very angy with grass and bushes in the background. The caption reads “Touching grass isn’t enough i need bad things to happen to evil men in power “
good morning friends 💚✨
yeah i love waymo, way mo immigrants coming to my city
child seemed somewhat satisfied
apparently king kong is supposed to be angry
child: draw me king kong
me, who only has a vague and passing knowledge of big ape via donkey kong:
I also just think Inq is a genuinely bad game lol it’s definitely the weakest narratively of the first 3.
i really miss hawke! they have such an awesome story and i think the series would’ve been way better off with them as the face of it.
Inquisition was, in my most honest opinion, let down by not having hawke as the protag. the writing genuinely makes no sense if you play a non-human.
pictured: a dog who has never received even an ounce of love from her humans (unrelated note: they did not share their breakfast with her)
and i will go back to being sad at the state of the franchise
there’s a lot more i can say (and am saying through a silly little fanfic project) but that’s just where i stand and always will stand on Dragon Age
