We've reached the level of GenAI saturation where a perfectly pleasant colleague spent 30 minutes inadvertently (I hope) telling me (a lead writer) how my role is essentially redundant now thanks to LLMs.

SAM NEILL

GENERAL JOHN MACARTHUR

If you were to commit a murder,

how would you do it?

It's got to be big! No slipping

something into someones drink, that's just

pathetic. I'd use a steamroller, just leave a

stain on the road. There's probably a couple

of people I'd put under a steamroller,

but I won't say who they are, otherwise

when they see a steamroller coming

their way they'll be on full alert. And

steamrollers don't go very fast...

Never forget that time Sam Neill gave a quote about murder that was so beautifully kabonkers, we all assumed it was a Clickhole bit initially

Any mention of target shooting in France reminds me of the time when I was about 13 and already a pretty good shot (10m air rifle mainly). We were on holiday in Brittany and went to a country fair where there was a .22 rifle shooting gallery. Other teenagers were having a go, so I paid 10 francs-

You must learn to hate the aristocracy as much as it hates you. It changes shape, tosses aside old husks like "divine right of kings" and "bloodlines" and slides right into slick new shells like "meritocracy".

A screenshot of a Facebook post by CBS 2 Boise. The post text reads: "A new state law required the City of Boise to take down the Pride flag outside City Hall. Tuesday morning, the City wrapped flag poles in Pride colors and added a new sign to the window on City Hall. CBS2 reached out to the Mayor and Governor’s office for comment."
Below the text is a collage of three photos showing these updates:
Left: A tall metallic flagpole in a plaza at night, with its lower section wrapped in horizontal stripes matching the colors of the Progress Pride flag (black, brown, light blue, pink, white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple).
Top Right: A closer view of a flagpole base, also wrapped in horizontal Progress Pride flag colors.
Bottom Right: A large window on City Hall featuring a graphic with diagonal stripes in the Progress Pride colors alongside the text, "Creating a city for everyone."

Oh, this is good. Idaho passed a bill banning local cities from flying the Pride flag. So the cities decided to wrap the poles themselves in pride colors.

This is amazing.

I once worked on a game show where they had a graphic that said “tow the line” and I had to tell them it’s “toe the line” and a producer started arguing with me about how it’s actually tow because it involves a tow truck. What.

Had a brilliant couple of days in Hull at From Player To Page, helping teach kids and teachers from local schools all about the games industry and the many kinds of writing and literacy skills involved!

Your options for placeholders:

- Make them yourself (difficult, takes time)

- Slop (monthly sub, kills the planet, enriches oligarchs, bad assets, everyone hates you and they're right)

- Incredibly made game assets by @kenney.nl ($19.95, one-time, supports give-aways to those who can't afford it)

I would prefer a developer who has never voice acted before, while using an XBOX 360 mic, and doing every voice in the game poorly than genAI.

I would prefer FMV of the developer to pop up and tell me what the scene is about or what will happen during a cinematic.

I would prefer silence.

I remember, a while back, asking if when Rome fell if it was this utterly stupid. It wasn't asked AT anyone. I was just throwing that question into the ether as a way of just venting, really.

I still think about how every historian who saw that post answered with an unequivocable "YES."

I'll gladly (and easily) keep adding games to my "never buy this" list.

I have enough games in my backlog that I could not play a new release for the next decade and still game every single day.

I suspect this Christmas market stall is not nearly so funny to Brits

But I am, as always, actually a twelve year old boy disguised as a forty-something woman 🤣🤣

Morning, bitches!

Remember, "the creator that made the <popular thing> which then became the backbone of an entire corporation, who then fired said creator and they died in poverty" is not some wishy-washy story, it's a very real warning.

Make, and own, your own art.

I love this conference. It’s the only one I’ve been to where everyone genuinely cares about the same bits of the games that *I* care about.

This year was bigger but still had the roomful of friends feeling it’s always had. Hugely grateful to the organisers.
