*chuckles at folks questioning whether Christian nationalism exists*

Pay attention to this. The purpose of these investigations is not just to manufacture evidence to support Trump’s 2020 “voter fraud” accusations, but also to set the stage for another round of efforts to suppress votes and delegitimize election results in 2026 (which the GOP is likely to lose).
NEW @pewresearch.org report I led with my team on religion in Latin America! The study focuses on Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, a group of countries that together make up roughly 75% of the region’s population.

Important new FREE study by Amy Brooke Grauley. Experiments show when Christian leaders warn Christians against Christian nationalism, they're less likely to identify with it, especially if they don't have strong views on it yet. Effects are weaker in the opposite direction.

Congratulations @marykatz.bsky.social !!!
Way to go @marykatz.bsky.social, who successfully defended her master's thesis today: "A Social Psychological Window Into How Americans Think About First Amendment Religious Exemption Requests." She's doing such cool work at the nexus of social psych, political psych, and the psych of religion!!
🧵 Just out in SRE. I dig into how Christian nationalism promotes white supremacy by focusing on racial stereotypes. CN is positively linked with viewing Whites as smarter & more hardworking than Blacks & Latinos. BUT the action is mostly on how CN shapes views re: Whites. 1/5 doi.org/10.1177/2332...

The GSS just dropped new data this week. Here's an interesting shift over the past 10 years. Among Americans as a whole, fewer say that being a Christian is "very/fairly important" to being truly American. But Republicans actually *increased* in that view, reflecting the hard ethno-nationalist turn.

Social science gives us the tools to understand the very forces that fear it.
Kudos to @marahalkire.bsky.social for leading this piece, in which she, @clarawilkins.bsky.social, and I share how, to many people, recent pushes to root out “anti-Christian bias” serve to signal pro-White allegiance.

Religion data for reuse! Those stories about U.S. religion you're currently seeing in the news? They're from the Pew 2023-2024 Religious Landscape Study. While anyone can explore the data with their online tools, Pew has also shared the underlying dataset: doi.org/10.58094/3kw...
I'm giving a talk tonight at UW. Heads up that the subtitle here is a bit of a misnomer. I'm actually going to talk about what my team's decade of research on online rumors reveals about the right wing bullshit machine. If you can't come in person, there's a livestream.
📢 Calling all religion scholars! 📢Please consider this my personal invitation to submit a paper or organize a session at the upcoming @sssreligion.bsky.social Annual Meeting in Minneapolis this October! Reach out to me or @evanstewart.bsky.social with questions or ideas!
