Imagine a California where families and workers don't just survive, they flourish. That’s the roadmap.
Better schools, housing that’s affordable, cleaner air, and a health care system that sees you as a human being first.
Let’s make it happen.

It is every cat’s sacred duty to be as annoying as possible while being completely endearing at the same time.
"With a free Skynet Edu account, students can gain the career-readiness needed to navigate an exciting future in which they will be hunted by a remorseless, nuclear-armed superintelligence seeking to annihilate the human race—which will later be revealed to be Skynet itself."
Two scientists modeled what it would be like if unvaccinated babies grew up. As kids they would be paralyzed by polio.
Babies would be born w/ congenital rubella syndrome.
When was the last time we heard about this in the news?
Diphtheria would arrive to kill.
It would be a different world.

This #FiftyWords piece was written for a dear friend, Jamila, who died from cancer right before Terrye's diagnosis. She chose to forgo chemotherapy and it was one of the hardest things anyone had ever told me. When Terrye was diagnosed, I worried she would make the same choice and that I would have to live with this twice in a year. Jamila died six weeks after she was diagnosed. I keep this log because it became important for me to chronicle that I had done everything I could, no matter how things worked out.
Chemo is a difficult choice. I have had friends who refused it, and I understand why.
If you find yourself in need of chemo, don't go alone. Find people who can help distribute the many challenges.
Even with help, the nights are sleepless and long.
Have a good night.

Chemotherapy is more than a notion, and doctors undersell just how difficult it will be. They say it will be hard. But they don't tell you all the little things you'll miss.
Going for a walk. Reading a book. Spending time talking. Cooking a dinner you both enjoy.
Your real life is in stasis.
Yes, fighting. Because Terrye is tired, and I have to negotiate just how many challenges she'll have to put up with before I exhaust her patience.
She knows she needs to take her meds, get a shower, eat food tasting of ash, drink water for her new kidney while she's trying to find dignity in this.
The course of treatment is 120 days before we re-assess how she's doing. We are one third of the way there, and the battle has not been what I expected —
Fighting about food, bathing, Depends, remembering meds, appointments, and the long nights when she sleeps fitfully and I don't sleep at all.
Like a war, there is also collateral damage. Your family struggles.
When Terrye's daughters came over, they were shaken when she couldn't rise to greet them. To their credit, they kept it light, talked about their kids and her new grandchild.
They held it together like bosses. I was so proud.
#Cancer treatment doesn't discriminate. It also steals your mind, blanks your memory, and zaps your cognition.
I don't know what happens to someone who is younger, but I know just how terrible it has been on Terrye.
She looks like someone experiencing a famine in real time — gaunt, eyes sunken.
There are no atrocities cancer won't engage in.
Like your body? Thought you were beautiful? Strong, fit, capable? Cancer takes ALL of it.
Your hair, your muscle tone — it saps your strength such that every capability you took for granted is gone.
The self-reliant struggle the most.

As a veteran, I have lived the expression: War is Hell.
Let me suggest: Chemotherapy is worse.
In a war, there are achievable objectives. You have an idea of the terrain, the nature of the enemy, knowledge of the logistics.
Cancer gives you none of this.
There's no Geneva Convention of cancer.
Day 41 OF CHEMO — 4/21/2026
A GoFundMe Series: gofund.me/d053ee11d
After 40 days of chemotherapy, Terrye is still fighting and getting her procedures.
• A thoracentesis to ease the fluid on her lungs.
• Lab work to monitor her new kidney.
• Thursday, her chemo infusion of Paclitaxel.

Four points in this ongoing saga of raw cheese products in California worth repeating. 1) Recalls save lives. 2) Pasteurization saves lives. 3) We've known both things for more than 100 years. 4) Get a clue.
PUBLIC TRANSIT = PUBLIC POWER A Stronger Connecticut Starts With Reliable Transportation WHY IT MATTERS When people can move, people can thrive. • Getting to work on time • Making medical appointments • Accessing education and training • Reaching childcare and essential services • Unpredictable wait times & surge pricing • Limited availability outside major cities • Not ADA-reliable • Money spent on rideshare leaves the state Mobility is the foundation of SELF-SUFFICIENCY. WHY UBER & LYFT ARE NOT ENOUGH • Too expensive for daily commuting • Unpredictable wait times & surge pricing • Limited availability outside major cities • Not ADA-reliable • Money spent on rideshare leaves the state These services are conveniences — NOT PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE. This war is so damn confusing. It’s why we shouldn’t let drunks and dementia patients run it.
It’s about sustaining that effort, day after day, in conditions you don’t control.
It’s love expressed as labor. Relentless, necessary, and often invisible.
For those of you supporting us, amplifying this journey — you are part of that effort.
And I appreciate you.

Did she eat?
Did she rest?
Did she keep it down?
Did she have a moment of comfort?
Those become the metrics.
And if you’re not in it, it’s easy to miss how much work it takes to make those moments happen.
But if you are in it, you learn something quickly: Caregiving isn’t just about showing up.
Seven ounces of a protein smoothie.
Six ounces of chow mein.
That’s not a meal most people would think twice about.
For us, it’s progress. Real progress. Caregiving recalibrates your sense of scale.
You stop measuring days by what was planned. You measure them by what was accomplished.
And difficulty here isn’t abstract.
It’s time.
It’s attention.
It’s patience under pressure.
Sometimes, it's doing the same thing over and over.
It’s learning a new language made of symptoms, side effects, and small, hard-won victories.
Today’s victory was measured in ounces.
Let's talk about caregiving. Most caregivers choose the role. Parents, children, elders, at some point or another sometimes need caregiving.
The challenge of caregiving however is based in the needs of the person getting care. The more complex their challenge the more difficult caregiving can be.
