Jasson Dominguez is still young and will play a key role in the Yankees outfield with the departure of Soto.

I like this Conforto signing for the Dodgers, he increased his bat speed over the course of the season.

If you look at the movement plots, you can see that there are 2 distinct pitch shapes. I'd be disingenuous of me to call them both sliders.

As for some changes I would make for Holmes I'd bring the Four-Seam Fastball back for left handed hitters as well as a potential kick change or splitter that he cuts a bit to fill out that arsenal.

Sweeper:

Last but not least it is the Sweeper, his best pitch by far. 84 MPH with 8 inches of drop and 18 inches of sweep it is truly an amazing pitch.

Slider:

His Slider is a good bridge pitch of sorts between his heavy Sinker and Sweeper. It comes in at 87 MPH and generates a 40 Whiff% with a 30 Chase%

I will now break down every pitch in Holmes repertoire:

Sinker:

Holmes throws a pretty nasty sinker at 96 MPH with 4.3 IVB and 14.4 inches of ASR. With a lot more drop than what is typical for his arm angle

Clay Holmes has elite stuff, with his arsenal scoring high marks according to my TimStuff+ Model:

Sinker - 106 TimStuff+
Slider - 110 TimStuff+
Sweeper - 124 TimStuff+

Losing velocity shouldn't me much of a worry as my stuff model still believes it will be an above average pitch.

Good Control:

Holmes controls his pitches well, dotting the corners and the bottom of the zone on all 3 of his pitches

Good Repertoire:

Holmes showcases a good three pitch mix with al pitches working well together, one of Holmes defining traits is the outlier movement on 3 of his pitches for his respective arm angle, something that sets him apart from the rest of the pack.

The first thing I look for is a deep arsenal, I set this at having 3 or more pitches. Holmes checks this box with his Sinker, Slider, and Sweeper. The next characteristic is above average command, Holmes has that as well. The last characteristics is having a plus pitch, Holmes' Sweeper is that pitch

Transitioning from a Starter to a Reliever isn't easy, and not every pitcher can do it. There are certain characteristics of a relief pitcher that I look for do judge their viability as a starter, Clay Holmes as all of them.

The Mets just signed Clay Holmes, could he be a starter? What he does well and the changes I'd make.
