On this day, I have finished the "final" editing pass on a set of 5 YA Fantasy novels. They shall rest for a short time before I figure out what to do with them.

2013 photo of Rob Ford, former mayor of Toronto and younger brother of the current premier of Ontario Doug Ford, sitting in a comfortable office chair while throwing his head back and laughing.
One doubts the sequel will be as funny or depressing as the original.

Canada rightly condemns the Iran regime but then says it supports the US-led war in Iran, despite it violating international law, a topic on which PM Carney is silent.
Is abandoning international law what Carney meant by principled realism in his Davos speech?
So if I go to the Amazon Canada site and search simply for "Melania", this is the book that comes up. I understand there's a campaign. Is it working well anywhere else? (www.amazon.ca/Melania-Devo...)
One hopes. Much of the rest of the world has been looking on in horror for some time now, wanting to believe that the reign of criminals and terrorists in the US is a very, very temporary thing. Yet it keeps going on.
So, about four years ago in Canada, the Proud Boys, the Atomwaffen Division, AWD, and the Base were all officially to the Terrorist Entities list.
How many of their members, current or former, work for ICE now?
Academic stuff kicking my mental butt this week. And my schedule.
Starfleet Academy Episode 3 commentary: by Roddenberry, that was fun.
A shocking number of the haiku I've written lately involve cold, snow, and things that result from cold and snow.
Suck it up, muffin. You're not the whole world and if you haven't managed to figure that out by now, you've missed the plot all the way along. Boiled down to essence, Star Trek is about expanding the definition of what it means to be human. You'll need more than a mirror.
As someone who has spent more time than I'd like observing the chud-like behaviour of the "anti-woke" crowd, I understand where all the whining is coming from, but I can't muster enough energy to even look for the smallest violin in the world to play "My Heart Bleeds For You."
I have however managed to find the time to catch the first 2 episodes of Starfleet Academy. It's both fun and very true to the spirit of Trek so far. As a pale-skinned male in his 50s, I'm not sure what the angry fuss is all about in certain quarters. Relax and enjoy the show or just don't watch it.
Busy start to the year in a lot of ways. Getting stuff done on all fronts, but it never feels like enough.
Thereβs a GoFundMe for Jonathan Rossβs legal expenses for murdering Renee Good.
This violates GoFundMeβs Terms of Service. Everyone must report it.
A thread on how to do that π§΅
Not so hot take for a 50+ year-old movie: Soylent Green is a boring, mediocre film not helped by Charlton Hesten's overacting or a melodramatic reveal.
While I expect that @mark-carney.bsky.social will never see this much less take any action that the gang of fascists and criminals running the US will disagree with, Canada keeps a list of people not allowed to enter the country. Everyone employed by ICE should be on it forever. #politics #cdnpoli
And so begins the new academic term.
Funny how I never get tired of saying that at my age.

All parties, like the United States for example?
You do realize how weak a response this is, I hope.
Dangerous and irresponsible, and also very Poilievre.
Artist-rendered movie poster for "Hell Comes to Frogtown" featuring Rowdy Roddy Piper holding a shotgun in one hand. A barely dressed Sandahl Bergman, also holding a large gun, kneels beside him with one arm wrapped around his closest leg. Mutant humanoid frogs in military gear approach.
All of the movies I'm looking forward to watching this year seem to be on the list I've been building of late 70s to early 90s SF/F B-movies. It began with that Roddy Piper-featured classic of post-apocalyptic ridiculousness, "Hell Comes to Frog Town."
Tell people when you like something about them, their art, their laugh, their style, their energy, their voice, their way of being in the world, Don't assume they already know, or that it won't matter. You have no idea how far a few honest words can go. You might be the reason someone smiles today, or the reason they keep doing what they love. Appreciation costs nothing, but it can rebuild confidence, fuel creativity, and remind someone that they matter. Don't hold back, your words can be the light someone didn't know they were waiting for.

Well, it's been a little while, but welcoming 2026 brings me back to BlueSky. Thinking I'll lurk around here for a while.

In 25 years, every business school in the country will be doing case studies about how a long defunct company known as βGoogleβ once had an unbeatable lock on online information retrieval and then started doing shit like this.
Someone once wrote that life goes in several cycles of birthday parties, weddings, and funerals. Not thinking about it too hard, but my kids are entering the first cycle of weddings and I'm coming into the second. Oldest daughter's best friend's wedding today.
Hello Blue Sky. I have been neglectful and I'm sorry. Today is a new day.
Sometimes, you get some great character moments and wonderful activity or action, but most of the time he's kind of this weird creeper and Kes needs to get a restraining order.
My oldest daughter is binge watching Star Trek Voyager, and has burned through a season and a half. In the last few days. I've been in the room in the enough to realize I'd forgotten just how inconsistent the writing was for Neelix in the early seasons.
