"CEO Said A Thing!" Journalism "CEO said a thing!" journalism involves parroting the claims of a business leader or executive with absolutely no context, correction, or challenge whatsoever, no matter how elaborate the delusion.

Over at the newsletter I wrote about the unholy scourge that is "CEO said a thing!" journalism:

Cluely CEO Roy Lee admits to publicly lying about revenue numbers last year | TechCrunch The $7 million in annual recurring revenue that Cluely CEO Roy Lee shared last summer was a lie, its founder and CEO Roy Lee admitted on Thursday on X.

I can’t believe the ā€œcheat-on-everythingā€ guy would do this.

This Tech Company Turned Into a Resistance Icon Overnight. The Reality Is Much Darker. The A.I. firm behind Claude is far from an ethical company.

I used to teach phonological rule notation using titles of songs that were popular in the 90s. It worked in the late 2000s, but I couldn’t use most of them by the mid-2010s

My book goes to Congress🄰! Rep. Desaulnier recently quoted The AI Con in the US House subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions. This is why "AI" will make our jobs worse.

Why is AI so bad at reading PDFs? One of the most ubiquitous file formats is stumping the major models

There is a way to prevent AI from scraping your data, but it's an ancient magic that comes with a steep cost

Many are appropriately outraged by Altman’s comments here implying that raising a human child is akin to ā€œtrainingā€ an AI model.

This is part of a broader pattern where AI industry leaders use language that collapses the boundary between human and machine.

We just found out our AI has been making up
analytics data for 3 months and I'm gonna
throw up.

So we've been using an Al agent since November to
answer leadership questions about metrics. It seemed
amazing at first fast answers, detailed explanations,
everyone loved it.
I just found out it's been hallucinating numbers this
entire time.
Our VP of sales made territory decisions based on
data that didn't exist. Our CFO showed the board a
deck with fake insights. The Al was just inventing
plausible sounding percentages.
I only caught it by accident when someone asked me
to double check something. I started digging, and
holy shit, it's bad.

Should not have been surprised when I got some juice in my eye. 🤦

The 'AI discourse' (may the gods and goddesses of the literary form forgive me for using this terrible phrase) has uncovered a legion of terrible dudes. With each turn of the screw, they reveal themselves to be stupider, more dishonest and dreadful.

I am exhausted by AI hype. AI doomerism is 100% more AI hype.

A *lot* of harm is being done in the name of AI.

If that harm is too hard to keep looking at, then you get this kind of nonsense:
