“It wasn’t that long ago that there weren’t any protected bike lanes downtown. The bike network is better than it’s ever been in Seattle,” he said. “If people haven’t ridden downtown recently, I encourage everyone to try it again.”

Great to chat with @nickdeshais.bsky.social about this connection!

Another big announcement today: SDOT has released a map showing the extent to which Pioneer Square will be nearly fully pedestrianized on FIFA game days. First Ave will be converted to one-way operations, southbound, with vehicle traffic restricted nearly everywhere else.

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

Various versions of this AI image keep coming up on my feed, and each one has more cartoon characters in it. The first was Snoopy and Woodstock. Now we’re up to eight. It’s just a very odd vector for the sentiment and it’s staring to feel Hypnotoady.

One of the things that is so positive about the transformation of Paris is it was FAST. Converting a choked polluted city into a space for humans to thrive, move, and enjoy can be done within a decade. It’s within reach today: we just have to elect leaders that care about people more than cars.

Kim: Three weeks of the war in Iran could have funded vision, hearing, and dental coverage for every senior in America on Medicare. I mean, it just gives you a sense of the trade-off.

U District's Ave Going Carfree for Three Saturdays in May, June All day for three Saturdays in May and June, one block of Seattle's University Way NE will become pedestrian-only, as a first step toward implementing a goal that advocates have been pushing for decad...

On three Saturdays later this spring, a central block along The Ave will close to vehicle traffic all day, a test of permanently pedestrianizing the U District's busiest pedestrian corridor. The idea has been envisioned since the 1950s.

AB 1557 Misses the Mark; Take Action Today

For folks in California, AB 1557 was just amended to make up new definitions for Class 1 and 2 ebikes that would dramatically impact their usability for carrying kids and cargo. @calbike.bsky.social has a good summary; contact your representative now: click.everyaction.com/k/129073693/...

One of my neighbors got rear ended in their car and has had an undiagnosed brain injury for a few months 😞

PSA if you get in a car accident and have *any* head impact you need to get screened for a concussion!!!

Maybe it wasn't a good idea to lead off the marketing campaign by aggressively, coercively pushing half baked garbage ideas

Conversation between me and a driver at a red light, me making left from left lane:

D: When I was a little kid I knew that bicycles need to be on sidewalks!

Me: It is very brave of you to be willing to tell strangers that you don't know laws about driving and have learned nothing since childhood

A pregnant mother was killed while riding an ebike after sunset (in an area where LA removed a bike lane bc drivers got mad).
The LAT story comments were all about how she deserved it for riding after dark.

Swedish highways often post reduced speed limits during traffic jams, with the bus lane prominently posting a higher speed limit. I don't think the bus drivers need the information but it sure helps remind drivers why to take the bus.

The Seattle Council is kicking off consideration of the second phase of the Comp Plan today, which means Laurelhurst homeowners have shown up to city hall today to try and get upzones near them taken off the table because the 15 minute bus service in their neighborhood is only a "bus turnaround."

We knew this design was going to be dangerous shit before they put it in, but apparently the convenience of cruise ship tourists is more important than everyone else’s lives.
@mayorofseattle.bsky.social I know you didn’t make this mess but please help clean it up.
