No, but after slight confusion on first encounter, I really like that approach! To lights, that is.

I can’t two-factor authenticate until my iPad charges enough to turn on, so I’m late to my own 10 o’clock meeting…
Keep in mind, I need a thumb print to use my laptop. If someone has my thumb, they can do whatever they want with my computer.
On my way to class, somewhere between 50-100 (≈80) cedar waxwings passed by.
What is the carbon footprint of uncomfortably overly air-conditioned buildings?
Welome to the “stop teaching arrows when you mean equals signs” challenge.
It’s sad that the accessibility push, which is certainly leading to positive things, has also just led to “well if I can’t do it my way, I’ll just stop doing it” at the same time.
Two nestling eastern bluebird faces through the hole of a cedar nestbox.

As spring migration ramps up, some tall buildings turn their lights off at night to save #birds from deadly impacts with glass, but not enough
At a time of declining songbird numbers, we need better policy than voluntary measures to protect all those winged beauties from this fate:
A virtual forum titled “How Al Can Improve Colleges' Communications with Students” with some introductory text. The image is a robot pointing at weird content on a simulated screen in front of a small-headed person writing with a pencil on paper.
An essay titled “The students who won’t use AI” by Beth McMurtrie. The image includes a woman hugging a lightbulb and a man jumping stacks of books while possibly punching an icon of a phone, among other confusing portrayals.
How punching in the face improves being punched in the face by people that don’t want to be punched in the face.
I said shutter speed not focal length!!! 😭😭😭
Think of the football teams!?!
I talked about writing alt text, showed a few of the recommended how-to's, but i haven’t found enough good, widely-applicable examples in practice and it's all still so subjective and context-dependent.
Part of me knows I did a pretty good job, part of me wishes l'd avoided this entirely and walked away when asked to teach it.
This weird mix of (largely non-technical) theory and technology.
Well, *it depends*, is it sunny?
Indoors, outdoors? Sports or portrait?
I'd like to think l've give some good guidance and experience. But it's hard when the rules are "well there aren't really any *rules*."
Despite not assigning enough coding homework, l'd like to think I've done a decent job teaching data viz this semester but it's been a really hard time to do it.
I've invited lots of questions. Some of which, translated, are equivalent to "what shutter speed should I use on my camera on Tuesday?"
Payday loans from the government?
If you think legislation that targets “low enrollment degrees” only impacts the humanities please look at this list. Degrees in chemistry, math, physics, political science, data analytics, psychology and economics are being eliminated. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/04/16/o...
Where does SpaceX gets its money though?
OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit
Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here
Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse
Media and universities: AI is here to stay
Eventually I mowed around enough things in wider and wider circles that it wasn’t worth mowing.
Bermudagrass is ugly. I’ve been displacing it in my yard since I started looking more closely at the ground in about 2014/15.

In better news, a small group of pine siskins just visited me.
While trying to do as many good, necessary, and important work things this week, the back of mi brain was filled with questions like “is this worth it?” And “I wonder what other jobs are actually like?”
Pretty sad questions after all these years.
You’d really think the minimum of Patriotic Duties would be to stop mowing your lawn in times like this.
It hurts me using $$ … $$ in quarto.
I wonder how representative of all American jobs this is, it’s too annoyingly formatted for more attention right now.

I realize I could take the insert out and the cables, but then there’s still an ugly, bare-edged particle board hole. Oh well.
A green foam phone holder with cords emanating from a cord hold on a desk. The laptop I’d like to put in that exact location has a bunch of stickers on it.
It’s fun how this cord hole is in the exact middle (side to side) of my desk where I might like to write or rest a laptop.
