red text on a mottled green background: “I should read labels more carefully. Instead of ginger ale I bought giger ale, and now my stomach is rumbling.”
Obvious that Hegseth was picked over more qualified candidates because of his ethnicity.
Two panels from a Pogo comic strip by Walt Kelly. Churchy La Femme screams "wow!" so loud that Pogo and Beauregard jump into each other's arms and fall over. Then Churchy looks down at them and says "It's Friday the Thirteenth!"

84°F (29°C) here today. The forecast for next Monday is a high of 36°F (2°C) and a low of 19°F (-7°C).
I know some people would shrug and say that’s the Midwest for ya, but I’ve lived here for 60 years and this is not normal. Didn’t used to be, anyway.
The more terrible the world becomes, the more comfort I find in horror. That’s probably messed up, isn’t it?
(Note that “finding comfort” isn’t denial or escapism. I keep up, I do what acts of resistance I can. Horror helps me keep it together so I can resist.)
I’m getting a lot out if reading Don Quixote (in translation), and it was written in the early 17th century. On the other hand, I resent my 1970s English teachers for forcing stuff like Ivanhoe on me and not even telling me about James Baldwin.
I *wish* I looked young enough to get carded at the liquor store. No one has requested my ID for an alcohol purchase for many years.
Not horror-related, but boosting for poetry lovers.
Top: Scrooge, from below, shouting down from his window "You there, boy! What day is it?" Bottom: Jason Voorhees, from above, looking up.
A rabbit in overalls and a goat in pants are sitting on the ground drawing pictures. The rabbit is saying “ART POSES A THREAT TO CORPORATOLRATIC SYSTEMS BECAUSE A PURPOSE OF ART IS TO REMIND THE INDIVIDUAL OF THEIR INHERENT AUTONOMY.”, the goat adds “THEIR HUMANITY.”

Reminder: In light of Bad Bunny's Superbowl performance spotlighting Latino culture, here's a hefty list of Latino speculative fiction authors I curated if anyone wants to take a gander and read some phenomenal work. Much love to all!

Join us— should be a great reading!
I don't understand a word Bad Bunny is saying but I know exactly what he means. This is awesome.
imagine being so committed to racism you have to pretend to like kid rock
Yeah, I have a feeling the welfare of the animal actor was not a prime concern. They were too busy going for the “Best Original Song” Oscar.
Watching The Giant Gila Monster (1959). I know it was on MST3K, but I can’t imagine how they’d make it any more amusing than it already is.
One take: just as Satan in Paradise Lost was meant to show how diabolical the classical virtues are, C&H are meant to show how fucked up ideas of romantic love are. Paradise Lost and Wuthering Heights are examples of dark satire.
3 Brides of Dracula One says "Creativity is resistance" One says "Whimsy is revolution" One says "Rest is rebellion"
Remember, darklings:

Moonflow made the long list for the Stoker award for "Superior Achievement in a First Novel!" It's an incredible honor to be included on this list and aaaaaaaaaaaaaa don't know what to say!!! Big thanks to everyone who's read Moonflow and believed in this dumb goblin 😭🙏
Others have joined me in watching the movie, so I’ll have to stop liveposting now.
You only get to play the “I was shot today” card once. You sure you want to use it on some shuteye?
Has anyone ever taken in a husky and not had second thoughts?
Kicking snow over the flaming helicopter. That should work.
