I remember this one, you can say path is relative to executable. It might need more or less \ escaping depending on your build process so double check but something like

If I was to pick something it would be web based.
Maybe something like Three.js scenes if you think you can cobble together webpage sort of interactive code on top of that?
Build mockups to start and worry about the interactivity later.
"visual novel" sort of coding is achievable in mostly anything so pick whatever you are comfortable getting art in and working, the rest will be a mess but that's fine :)
There is an advantage to not knowing how to code and just accepting and working within the limitations...

Yep, still pretty much the same just less clunky and has turn based encounters.
Environment effects are also a big part so plenty of opportunity to "accidentally" set fire to your team mates which I feel is very important for coop game play.

Amiga was enough of a real computer that it didn't really need cross development. The first HD I had was like 20meg so real tiny, like 20 floppys. Swapping disks around wasn't that different an experience to using a HD...

Egg hatching seems good, nice way to slowly populate a level.
Pickup and throw seems like it can work.
Could be better to stun, then grab and throw to 'splode em against a wall rather than just stomp them.

My preferred CRT style for modern displays is to blend left-right, subtract a scan-line and add a bloom.
The bloom cancels out the scan-line darkening and the left-right blend gives it just enough fuzz.
