Dean Crow - Gyotaku — Brown Hound Press My father papered the walls of his studio in crisp white washi, covered in schools of Gyotaku: ink prints of fish he’d caught throughout his career. I probe the paper like I’m noodling for a bite until I fumble on the light switch. The LEDs mimic natural light–my father would accept no less. He dema

Story Track: The Kill for Love album by Chromatics is one of my top records of the past twenty years. The track “These Streets Will Never Look the Same” is a fitting match for @lucidillusions.in’s story with its eerie synth and lyrics.

Story of the Week: Suvajeet Duttagupta (@lucidillusions.in) explores the concept of digital addiction in his story “The Digital Familiar” wherein a teenage girl becomes psychologically dependent on an AI(?)-powered phone app.

Story of the Week: I loved the subtle foreshadowing in Deb Blenkhorn's piece, hints that the story may not be as innocent as it seems. The final, devastating reveal demands a rereading of the girls’ experiences with newly-opened eyes.

As the editor of @brownhoundpress.bsky.social I wouldn’t dream of asking an author to submit a story and then deliberately deciding they aren’t worthy of a response. I can’t understand how other publications think this is acceptable behavior. We don’t do that.

Story Track: The Sigur Rós song “Samskeyti” employs the band’s signature sound: sequences of gradually-layering, syncing patterns, similar to the thoughts of the story’s narrator. The Icelandic title roughly translates to “seam” like the mental connection between the two telepathic characters.

what a gorgeous little story! (this is going to stay with me for a long time, and inspire me to write something new, I know it)

take a 5 minute breather and read this, you'll appreciate something about yourself that's meant to be… just for you!

We just saw The Bride! and it’s fucking great. Highly recommend seeing in theater. @joshaboldt.bsky.social and I agree it’s the best movie we’ve seen in awhile. Wildly inventive and steeped in movies at the same time.

Soramimi Hanarejima - Minding Yourself — Brown Hound Press Three stops before yours, a telepathic flare-up comes on fast, like a stream-of-consciousness flash flood you can’t escape in this train car. Immediately you regret skipping your usual afternoon coffe...

Story of the Week: In Soramimi Hanarejima's “Minding Yourself” we are dropped into telepathic chaos along with the narrator. As we read, the urgency overtakes us until we become the tandem skydiver of the story’s beautiful last line.

The title says it all for this week’s song pairing: Queen’s “I’m in Love With My Car.” Neighbor Carl has an unhealthy relationship with his automobile. If you spot him lurking in your driveway, you better cover that tailpipe!

Story of the Week: It’s just a coincidence we scheduled @judypenzsheluk.bsky.social's darkly humorous tale about feuding with a rude neighbor and exacting a delicious revenge this week. Not at all related to my own daydreams. I promise!
