Country-wide effects of new housing supply: Evidence from moving chains, by Lukas Hauck and Frederic Kluser
Another new paper on housebuilding and vacancy chains, this time with data on every Swiss resident & housing unit! An interesting context given Switzerland's high immigration, very large rented sector and strong tenancy rent controls... frederickluser.github.io/files/Moving...
Stick with it! It's a pain at first but very quickly worth it 😀
Column on the government’s Buckaroo! strategy - keep piling obligations and charges on certain sectors and hope they don’t kick you in the head. Housing, energy, pharma, immigrants…

If you've studied languages, you've probably been told you should use Anki. I couldn't get into it & ignored the advice. But now I realise I've wasted a lot of time NOT doing it. So I've set out some experience on why & how to get into it, in my blog:

[Blog post] A year ago I picked up Kafka's Metamorphosis, and could barely understand a word. A year later, I'm happily reading German literature for fun.
What happened? I bit the bullet and finally started using Anki... (1/2)
Have you used Anki? I started using it for German a few months ago - with a pre-made deck of the 5,000 most common words - and it's crazy how quickly my German improved

Cooler room, eye mask/ black out blinds, ear plugs if noise disturbs you. I also found L-glycine and magnesium threonate before bed helps
He goes on to hypothesise that there's a taboo around pointing it out because it's very insulting to call someone envious, but I'm not sure people are particularly averse to insulting others. Hmmm
Charlie Munger on envy. I don't know whether psychology textbooks have stopped neglecting it since he wrote this, but I have noticed myself that it's underrated in popular discourse as a factor in sociopolitical behaviour
We need occupational licensing for using the word ‘neoliberal’ immediately

This is a great salad tip btw. Get the pink pickled ginger from the Asian supermarket & chuck it on some cucumber, and you've got an instant fresh & sour salad which goes great with spicy food. And pleasingly colourful. I eat it all the time
