thanks for the report (and I just realized i don’t have my bluesky notifications set up correctly!)
flying out of EWR this morning and got through Terminal C security (with PreCheck) in 7 mins 🙏
(Not a fan ofTwitter these days but felt like using it for this data was actually for the public good -- in the biological world, actual cesspools can be used as fertilizer!)
I built a crowd-sourced TSA security wait time app - Terminal Watch - that covers the top ~10 airports in the US, grabbing wait-time-related posts from BlueSky & Twitter/X (blech) into a per-airport, per-terminal dashboard w/ overall commentary about airport conditions. terminalwatch.info
Vonnegut particularly relevant today (I just happen to be reading Slaughterhouse Five right now)
I’ve cried through this entire Willie Nelson set at Farm Aid. He means so much to this country. A true hero
The best feature of any hotel is the Hampton Inn self-serve waffle iron. Five star hotels take note — you will never truly be five star to me until you add this amenity.
David Byrne came to my band’s show at a gay bar in Bed-Stuy and sang This Must Be The Place with us and I still haven’t processed it
4/ I'm 3 weeks in and love it. The Brick itself is an NFC device and doesn't require a battery or any charging so it's easy to deal with. Highly recommended! See link for how to get one (it's not an affiliate link and I get nothing if you click on it -- I'm just a big fan!)

3/ I set up a "Sleep / Wake" profile that blocks all the dumb phone things I waste time on when I go to bed or after I wake up. The Brick is in another room so to un-Brick, I would have to go touch the Brick. Instead, with the dumb stuff blocked, I've been ending/starting my day reading books.
2/ Brick is like ScreenTime in spirit but if, for example, you set up an "out to dinner" profile and leave the Brick at home, you are locked out of whatever apps you blocked while you're at dinner because you can't access those apps until you tap the Brick again. (You get 5 "emergency" un-bricks.)
1/ My favorite new product: Brick. Set up profiles like "out to dinner" or "work" w/ apps you want to block in those contexts. Tap the Brick & those apps are unavailable to you until you tap the device again & un-Brick. This review explains how it works.

realizing lately that I’ve actually missed the fun and learning of social media despite not being interested in that other site any more. gonna try posting random stuff here again and see what happens!
a package was misdelivered to my house and the recipient name was a little unusual so I googled it and ended up on a LinkedIn profile. I burned an InMail reaching out and the story ended with that person picking up the package at my place this morning. LinkedIn and Christmas - killer combo.
he likes mariachi quite a bit!
my family has a pet parakeet & when we got him I wasn't a "bird person" (in fact, I was highly skeptical of birds as pets) but 4 years later every morning when I wake up, I talk to the bird and flap my arms like I'm flying which causes him to flap his wings in response. A great way to start the day.
Definitely check this amazing film out from my friend Gary Hustwit! It's been really amazing seeing this develop from concept to reality & playing a small part by making the intros to eventual executive producers @elatable.com & @ireneau.bsky.social. Only available in theaters. . . until now!
I use Rev.com for this. I've transcribed 100s of hours of interviews, mostly from conducting interviews in 360s in my coaching work. Another way is to use ChatGPT voice mode and tell it you're going to read out some text. It'll capture the text in the process and you can just cut and paste it.
Today I found myself pondering the mysterious staying power of the Dippin' Dots brand. How do they do it? What is their secret in a world otherwise full of uncertainty?
more mundane. an IRS form for my coaching business!
I just sent a fax. AMA.
Really proud that *three* of 10 productions mentioned in this Artforum "Best of 2024" list are from the amazing St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn (where I have served on the board for 11 years). I love what they do and the risks they take year in and year out.

Lydia Davis’ (very) short stories are perfect for my attention span and my inability to stay awake for long when doing bedtime reading.
grateful for this new Kim Deal record (among many other more profound things like family, friends, and good health!)
met a guy who runs a very pro recording studio in NYC and he needed some wifi/networking help so I’ve been trading him network config for sitting in on some fucking amazing recording sessions. so today i set up some wifi APs while listening to killer live jazz. A great trade.
If you haven't locked in your turkey-cooking method just yet, may I suggest smoking the turkey. I've done it a few times and it is The Way.**
** well, right up there with deep-frying, but less mess!

saw M Ward do a show at Cafe Carlyle last night and it was magical. I’ve spent so many nights standing in a dank venue drinking PBR seeing shows but seated in a plush club a little dressed up having steak frites and a couple of martinis is a nice way to do it now and then.
