Mersey Morris is unusual in that it has two ceremonial staffs of office from the Morris Ring. These date back to at least the 1950s (and possibly another 15-20yrs before that) and were combined when the Liverpool Morris Men merged with the Wirral Men in 1962 to become the Mersey Morris Men.
Little known fact : Morris dancing is the main purpose of pub gardens. It’s what they were designed for.
This week’s helium-balloons-on-the-ceiling-of-Morris-practice haul. It’s a double! Always a good omen.
Want to feel the magic of Morris? Come and try it out at our taster sessions for the next two Mondays (6th and 13th January). Learn what double stepping, a half hey, and kick capers are (ok, maybe not kick capers). The fun starts at 8pm, Thornton Hough Village Hall, Wirral CH63 1JB. Be there!

Heap on more wood! The wind is chill,
But let it whistle as it will,
We'll keep our Christmas merry still
Twas Christmas broached the mightiest ale.
Twas Christmas told the merriest tale.
A Christmas gambol oft could cheer
The poor man's heart through half the year”

Is it even a Morris practice in a village hall if there isn’t a helium balloon stuck in the ceiling?
See you there at 11am on Dec 26th for Christmas cheer, a cake impaled on a sword, a blue and yellow bird, the brand new mummers play, and the unveiling of the new Mersey dancers who have been practicing hard all autumn. Why would you be anywhere else?
The countdown is on for the most exciting day of the festive season. That’s right - Mersey Morris’ Boxing Day Revels on Willaston Green!
We will be bringing the Morris to the people at this event in Helsby, Cheshire next Saturday from 2-4pm. Come join us! All the details at hohohelsby.co.uk
Four sets up for Signposts at practice last night. If you want to join, there’s always room for new dancers, Monday nights on the Wirral.
There’s a few more videos and photos on Facebook here - facebook.com/mersey.morris . It’s such a great dance spot, and the museum were incredibly welcoming. Fingers crossed it can be an annual event.
Please could you add us? Merseyside’s oldest Morris side, formed in 1960 and now open to all genders since 2021!
That sounds likely!
