Michael Jackson biopic whitewash went exactly as you'd expect

"One of Michael’s few quiet scenes resonates the loudest. Gordy offers Jackson a tip, “In this business, you lie about everything.” 10-year-old Michael Jackson swiftly announces to a room full of journalists that he’s only 8 years old"

A Frank Capra movie for the 1990s. The rare combination of coming up with the perfect concept and executing it well. The two leads were impeccably cast and altogether it just simply works letterboxd.com/nickfield90/...

“It’s critically important to re-release the movie, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame...It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way" deadline.com/2026/04/joe-...
In 1935, apparently 2 hours and 11 minutes was considered a long enough film that Variety had to damp down fears that audiences wouldn't sit through it
I was looking forward to a Hollywood tale about a tyrant overthrown. Instead, they botch the process, casting off the Captain instead of prosecuting him. The Captain returns and costs the lives of many, and the court absolves the Captain. So not exactly escapism letterboxd.com/nickfield90/...
This also gives some perspective on why Downey took the role. While he'd already filmed Oppenheimer by the spring of 2023, he didn't know it would be such a financial success or that he'd win an Oscar. Instead, his last movie was the 2020 flop Doolittle

A very honest answer here from Kevin Feige, as he says they began to consider casting Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom in "early 2023". After all, QuantuMania flopped in February 2023 while Jonathan Majors was arrested in March 2023 www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3at...

Chaplin was right about how well this story captured America. A young man who by birthright should be part of a rich family does whatever it takes to regain his spot. Altogether, George Stevens does a terrific job with this Gatsby-like story letterboxd.com/nickfield90/...
