It’s not even a bad writing choice. Mum has her traumas from her family that lead her to be a lot less tolerant of Hilda’s wandering off and risk-taking than the TV version. But it’s still not a parent I want to represent to my kid.

This was legitimately the only thing my two-year-old would watch. She’s since moved on to much worse garbage, but we watched all of Hilda at least five times.
I’ve considered getting the graphic novels for her at some point, but I had heard (and since confirmed) that Mum is kind of awful in them.
No, no, he’s just the *previous* airbender.
this race-bending the new musketeers thing is taking it way too far, next they'll be claiming Dumas was black or something
My brother worked shipping at a “bee and bee products” company for a few years and some of the stories of Bee Day there (similar to what’s described here) were absolutely wild, even though they were also pretty much uniformly safe.
The one that always sticks with me is that there’s an Irish Baron Waterpark
Saw this at the Boston Common Regal in its initial run and remember thinking the same.
Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., slammed the new tax law for terminating a free alternative for tax filing and putting taxpayers at the mercy of “tax software giants who overcharge for a service that ought to be free.”
This Tax Day, don't forget this: Donald Trump went out of his way to shut down the IRS' FREE and EASY tax filing program.
But I have a bill to bring it back for good. Let's get it done.
Came up with a proper noun that probably qualifies as common, at least in the wordplay sense.
I did have to type out RHYTHM to make sure it wasn’t spelled that way
My only answer is archaic, so probably not “common”
I’ve never been here but, just based on the location, I have to assume this filled the key niche of “just visited Crater Lake with the kids and am realizing there’s nothing else to do within two hours driving of it.”
New, from me: American taxpayers will spend billions of hours and hundreds of billions of dollars — not to pay their taxes, but to report them to the government.
Thank Trump, who killed Direct File, a free tax high-quality reporting tool that IRS had built. 🧵

My eyesight does not support tagging myself in this, but I was surprised to realize I’m currently partway through one of the poster’s books.
Psychic wordplay fallout from the fact that your capital (Annapolis, Maryland) sounds like a description of Eden before the fall.
As a physicist I find the concept of the anti pope hilarious, what if they touch
I had to check this reference and then remembered the framing. If it helps, I was an explorer with achiever leanings who fucking loathed socializers and killers. Interestingly, this broad characterization has proven true IRL as well.
There are lots and lots and lots of ways to make this joke and it’s a tribute to Scalzi’s skill as a comedic writer that “Bea Arthur” is one of vanishingly few such ways that actually makes it funny.
I don’t really want to elaborate but sadly I can.
Yeah, unfortunately I’m so far out of the field at this point that I don’t have any citations to point you to, but I still remember the basic principle.
But there’s a lot more complicated/detailed thinking that goes into how to make various non-economic outcomes quantifiable and fungible. It’s a lot like the difference between textbook physics that hand waves friction and air resistance and actual physics.
I can actually speak to this! The generic answer is that they’ve handwaved quantifying all outcomes for the purposes of structuring the game (but so it’s easy for it to look like only economic outcomes).
never forget when the Easter Bunny sent Teddy Roosevelt to the shadow realm
The moon hanging over four astronauts with the words: 10 days | 685,000 miles Around the moon for all humanity Artemis II …and then the names and roles of the astronauts.
Despite all the hype and excitement, I regret to inform you that NASA’s movie poster for the Artemis II mission lacks the deeply unhinged quality I look for:
You’re telling me you don’t read a story like that and immediately think “That’s a very Dennis Rodman thing to do”?
It’s good Elon’s kids are trying to find their place in the world.
Victor Robles is probably in my top three baseball names that would make a great Star Wars name spelled backward.
Surprised as anyone to discover that Wu-Tang is my favorite new TMBG song in decades.
