It does appear to lack an understanding of the market. Who are these aimed at? I would think people genuinely interested in the enhancements of a U are probably the same people that want to maybe push that further.
Do I want a toy where I sit around and wait to see what's upgraded next; not really.

There's not in inch of hindsight required. Day 1 decision. Are we reselling gideons board, but with physical added value, a nice box and a case, and that's our income.
Or is the revenue in the software and how do we protect that.

Quite. It's the change of tack that gets my back up. Let's do this great community focused thing. Oh hang on, in an entirely predictable way that's quite hard to monitise....

All I mean about the price is if I ruin a £10 aliE experiment it goes in the bin. If I've paid £300 then ofc there's the temptation to try it on with a warranty fix. But they just need to say no, and that should be the end of it.

In better news: mellow yellow is back in the land of the living. Looks like the new pla that replaced the old pla was also broken. Managed to blow the fuse in the process too, but thankfully neither ebay or commodore will be receiving a warranty return cos it was probably my fault and I'm not a tnuc

Let's be clear, it's not a hill I'm gonna die on. I get commercial realities. It's their deduction. I just don't *like* the gist of it. It's Disney and Netflix and everything else that's wrong with the world, not happy clappy wasn't commodore great.

Thundered your way through another set of underkeks jimbo?

See, what this is, is opwolf but the graphics (appear) to move forward instead if sideways.

That technological step change in performance is something we've been missing for somewhile.

You avoid apps because you desire functionality

Yeah there's the rub. ROI on consumer electronics (especially niche ones) ain't just 10% on hardware sales anymore....

Regardless of the detail of why and how, there are some pretty simple routes and options here that have better optics shall we say. Imo.

They're saying they've identified firmware bricked machines, and they should say, sorry we're not fixing that for you. Instead they're saying we're going to try and stop you doing that again.

1 day ago 2 0 1 0

This is true, but also what are they trying to create with new commodore? Old commodore was always more than it said on the box. Mods and hacks and 3rd party addons and pulling it to pieces is as old as the machine itself. What's with this Nintendo-esque attitude now?

1 day ago 1 0 1 0

If they can already say that firmware mods is a problem, then they should already be rejecting warranty claims on these units. I just don't get the need real or implied lock down the core.

1 day ago 1 0 1 0

It's a £300 machine. If youre gonna play brick roulette that's a fully conscious choice, and you should own it. But you should have the option to do it. Cut trace, tamper sticker whatever. But not some BS we're locking you out to protect y/our 64 from harm.

People like to tinker. People want to mod. This is kinda rolled into the scene imo. If you *just* want a sanitised 64 experience there are cheaper options.
Put a tamper proof sticker over the jtag connector or what ever it uses, but don't tell people what they can and can't do with their own stuff.

I'm reading just the opposite. They do care. And they're locking it down.

Omg. Work or don't work. This nearly working occasionally is driving me round the bend.
