It does appear to lack an understanding of the market. Who are these aimed at? I would think people genuinely interested in the enhancements of a U are probably the same people that want to maybe push that further.

All I mean about the price is if I ruin a £10 aliE experiment it goes in the bin. If I've paid £300 then ofc there's the temptation to try it on with a warranty fix. But they just need to say no, and that should be the end of it.

In better news: mellow yellow is back in the land of the living. Looks like the new pla that replaced the old pla was also broken. Managed to blow the fuse in the process too, but thankfully neither ebay or commodore will be receiving a warranty return cos it was probably my fault and I'm not a tnuc

Regardless of the detail of why and how, there are some pretty simple routes and options here that have better optics shall we say. Imo.

They're saying they've identified firmware bricked machines, and they should say, sorry we're not fixing that for you. Instead they're saying we're going to try and stop you doing that again.

This is true, but also what are they trying to create with new commodore? Old commodore was always more than it said on the box. Mods and hacks and 3rd party addons and pulling it to pieces is as old as the machine itself. What's with this Nintendo-esque attitude now?

If they can already say that firmware mods is a problem, then they should already be rejecting warranty claims on these units. I just don't get the need real or implied lock down the core.

It's a £300 machine. If youre gonna play brick roulette that's a fully conscious choice, and you should own it. But you should have the option to do it. Cut trace, tamper sticker whatever. But not some BS we're locking you out to protect y/our 64 from harm.

People like to tinker. People want to mod. This is kinda rolled into the scene imo. If you *just* want a sanitised 64 experience there are cheaper options.
Put a tamper proof sticker over the jtag connector or what ever it uses, but don't tell people what they can and can't do with their own stuff.

I'm reading just the opposite. They do care. And they're locking it down.
