Hungary's brave choice last night is great for Europe, good for Ukraine, bad for Russia, bad for Trumpism, and bad for the far-right over the entire globe—all of which, to me, is a victory for the forces of good and democracy in the world: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/the-joy-of...

Fantastic work. Links to nominated pieces in the thread.
Twinning! Something important is going on this week that will have world-wide implications!
Like an egg splitting in half, a tropical wave gives birth twin tropical #cyclones in the Equatorial Pacific. Notice how one spins clockwise I the Northern Hemisphere, the other counterclockwise SH… 1/
Good morning team.
I'm glad I posted this yesterday
Size of Iran vs Alaska (and the continental USA for scale). Hope that helps to make global news a tiny bit more relatable.
The severe environmental damage caused by decades of critical mineral extraction in China offers a stark lesson for countries now seeking to develop their own supplies. https://bit.ly/4cYGMH1
The “Flat Map” continues to make the rounds…this time the vaunted r/MapPorn subreddit…
a lot of comments for an old thing.

The unsurprising irony that these three headlines occurred together…
It is hard to fathom that the State Department I spent 10 years at would ever conceive of, let alone build, such a thing.
Remember a few years ago when the Post had an all-star group of geographers and cartographers in the map / graphics shop? I do. This would have never happened.
Spectacular reporting by @wired.com
Can’t say it better than Morello does here…Minneapolis is an inspiration…and yeah, this song is a wholly appropriate anthem.

A video of Alex Pretti reading out the final salute of an unnamed veteran he cared for until the end of his life in the ICU, posted to Facebook by his son.

It’s -9 degrees. Downtown Minneapolis is packed for the anti-ICE rally and the crowd keeps growing
I’m proud of Minneapolis.
This is actually the really simple story of the collapse of American democracy. You can explain America’s constitutional collapse in a single coherent sentence:
After the Trump admin started deleting video evidence of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot from a DOJ server, a law firm secured a judge's order requiring the U.S. to restore the files. The firm has now partnered w/ @archive.org to permanently store them 👇 archive.org/details/@jan...
Front pages of American newspapers after Jan. 6, 2021, with headlines like "Capitol Chaos," "Assault on Democracy," "Pro-Trump mob storms Capitol."
Five years ago.
Four generations of my family have served our country. Service is in my blood. The President wouldn’t know anything about that.
Shameful.
I can’t stop watching it…just keeps getting funnier.
To the generation of people that grew up with a cell phone in their hand from day one, no, it is not acceptable to watch tv/listen to music/use speakerphone in a public place without headphones. How this element of social decorum has been eroded escapes me, it’s obvious you heathens.
Ooh, an earlier version of me would have loved this opportunity.
I’m confused by the “AI data center in space” conversations. If existing imaging & GPS satellites are vulnerable to attack because of their size, thus we must build constellations with more, smaller platforms, then how would we defend large in-orbit compute clusters? spacenews.com/beyond-the-h...
It’s a day to recognize the service of military veterans, but personally I also think of all the civilians who swore the same oath…”against all enemies, foreign and domestic”…whether it be NatSec, Intel, or regular Cabinet agencies, there are a lot of patriots the citizens should be proud of today.
Take 5 minutes and read this thread, you will learn something new.
Good summary, the system wasn’t designed to withstand one branch just giving up. IMO gerrymandering is the critical element in the legislature breaking. No deals at home, no deals in DC. Fixing the legislature will require re-establishing logical voting district boundaries.
…hope you do too.
