I was led to believe this was a cost saving tactic, but according to this video it was likely a deliberate act to allow hate speech, racism, and misinformation on the platform.

They stopped paying their bills and quickly shutdown all filtering and moderation. It took us months to get a response and in the end they paid only a fraction of their outstanding debt.

I didn’t realize until I saw this video that Elon Musk appears to have specifically removed Cleanspeak from Twitter in order to allow a massive shift in the platform.

Our software had been an active part of Twitter moderation right up until Elon took over.
