Slavery was legal at one point too. Just because a law is on the books doesn't make it right. Arresting people isn't a fix for poor immigration policy. And they are people, not aliens. While the term is accurate it is dehumanizing. Words and labels matter in this politically charge environment.

The law doesn't justify the treatment of these people. What's going on is immoral and needs to stop.

You are correct, the protests do provide encouragement. I also disagree that protests didn't do anything to stop the Vietnam war. Those protests, particularly Kent and Jackson State, were pivotal in swaying public option of that war and contributed to the end of the war.
