If I create a passkey on my computer where does it live? Can I use it on my phone? What if I use windows and an iphone? What happens if I lose my phone? If someone steals my computer, can they get into my email now? Why does THIS site need a password plus a passkey but this other one doesn’t?

What are users scared of? How do you reassure them? They know how passwords “work” and how to use them (even if that is “use the same password everywhere”).
If you’re introducing friction, you need to help them understand the upsides. Otherwise they will work around it.
My 2 cents: this suggests that expecting individual “sites” to be responsible for user education is a losing battle.
How can we make that education happen earlier? Consistently and clearly at the browser/OS/password manager level. Not interrupting a user when they’re trying to complete a task.
I mean… look at this “Introduction to Passkeys” document. How many words do you get into it before hitting something that needs further explaining? www.passkeycentral.org/introduction...
Congratulations if it’s more than ten. You are an edge case.
Jenn nails this! I love passkeys, use them for primary and second factor auth whenever I can, and would be THRILLED to see them become ubiquitous.
But I have spent ZERO work time advocating we integrate them to our product, because there is no good way to explain them to my peers OR our customers.
This is the most California version of a “Florida Man” story.

Oh totally. Meant it as an extra slice of Swiss cheese for your defences, not as an alternative.
I recently enabled this and it’s doing a reasonable job of preventing it. bsky.app/profile/face...
Agreed. Especially if it means I gain Edie McClurg as my next door neighbour.
SEIU California has un-endorsed Scott Wiener for Congress because he opposes the CEO tax.
But San Francisco SEIU members have wanted a sole endorsement for Connie Chan since the beginning.

If you see this post a picture from whatever device you’re using with no explanation.
I am choosing to believe that Ace Attorney is part of the assigned reading for your coursework.
Yes. And several people replied in comments and accused it of being fake, even though it was 100% true.
Thank you to @theverge.com for writing such a clear and unambiguous essay.
Whatever nostalgia you have for your early 2000s self, you *have* to acknowledge the *very* really harm that continued patronage of Joanne R causes.
I would die for the anglepoise iMac G4.
Exactly! As I said the other day: bsky.app/profile/rod....
I was happy to see that my favourite feature of SNL—the “12:55am weird cheap final sketch that can easily be cut if the show is overrunning”—made it across the Atlantic.
Can confirm this is common for private companies. Same with acquisition news. Usually you want to use the announcement strategically (e.g. alongside partnership announcements, as you’re starting a big hiring swing, to distract from a negative press cycle, to give an exclusive to a favourable journo)

I quite like Jesse’s description that the folks building agentic frameworks are “speedrunning engineering management” blog.fsck.com/2026/02/03/m...

Gourmet Magazine is now worker-owned and AI slop free. There's possibly multiple recipes for eating the rich. It also lowers your blood pressure when you read nice things people write about food. gourmetmagazine.net
SO the NYT thought it was cool to profile the indie media project relaunching the Gourmet brand here: www.nytimes.com/2026/01/13/b...
BUT they've now FIRED @nzle.bsky.social for it.
So subscribe to Gourmet, hire Nozlee, and as ever the NYT can get in the sea.
Got an NPS survey from my fucking *landlord*. Jesus, people! I pay your extortionate rent, isn’t that feedback enough? Who the hell is “recommending” their landlord anyway?
(The Detractor/Promoter colour scheme to try and bias the respondent is a nice touch)
what’s your sign?
Reading this and nodding my head vigorously. Most companies’ approach to “growing” engineers is “stick them near more senior people and hope for the best”. (No, your paltry “learning” stipend doesn’t count)
How do we help our engineering staff of ALL levels grow their ability to have impact?
