Even from a purely electoral perspective you’d expect Labour to pump billions into HE and focus on removing student debt. In practice they seem to be doing the opposite. Baffling…
www.theguardian.com/politics/liv... The UK is the country in Europe that most profits from arts and entertainment, with a very significant impact on the country’s economy. This would almost be the same as the Germans deciding to disinvest in their Engineering degrees…
www.theguardian.com/environment/... It’s mind blowing that the Labour Party does not put universities at the centre of its political agenda: from a pure economic perspective, they’re one of the most efficient tools of regional development and one of the most successful British exports
This research is important because it corroborates what we already knew - that when comparing the UK to peer economies, it has had a big slowdown since 2016. It does so with firm-level data and finds more EU-connected firms have sizeable shortfalls in productivity and investment compared to less.
The levy on foreign students is an export tax. Has anyone in government wondered why countries don't usually impose export taxes?

Parece-me urgente rever a distribuição dos círculos eleitorais. Precisamos de menos, mas com um número mais equilibrado de deputados. Tendo em conta que ainda estão por contar os votos dos emigrantes, eu diria que vamos ultrapassar os 10% de votos para o lixo… www.publico.pt/2025/05/21/p...
True. Clearly, still not a priority. Until the first one goes bust.
It is very rare for you to find a politician with a PhD in British politics. Same with a lot of the commentariat. EquallyC the overwhelming majority seem to come from Oxford. Basically, many had a university experience decades ago and one v different from the realities of HE in this country…
