Do y'all remember before the internet, when people thought the cause of stupidity was the lack of access to information?
Yeah, it wasn't that.
The Christophe-Colomb and Bellechasse protected intersection under the snow (📷 @velo.qc.ca).
There was much handwringing about this being "impossible" to clear of snow. My team will be talking to maintenance crews to see how it's going and what we could improve in future protected intersections.
E-cargo bikes sound pretty amazing in this new UK study:
"Parents’ and children’s enjoyment, curiosity, and sense of adventure encouraged additional travel, transforming routine journeys into playful and memorable family experiences."

this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)
Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…
* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M
So YES this has been a huge success.
This basically amounts to Waymo using city workers to provide customer service -- with local taxpayers footing the bill.
We warned you that self-driving cars would just create self-driving traffic jams, and here they are.
The car industry has no solution to the shortage of space in cities. Public transit, cycling, and walking are all part of the answer, but cars are not.
Voorstraat in Utrecht: a true fietsstraat where bikes come first and cars are guests. It’s not just safer and more relaxed to cycle - the whole street benefits. Outdoor cafés, quieter homes, and a vibrant public space. When you design for people, cities flourish.

Alors ON VA VOTER GANG !
“Most Montrealers probably know Ferrada best for having committed a cardinal sin as a landlord: collecting an illegal security deposit, and an equally illegal cleaning fee. Another concern with Ensemble Montréal’s mayoral hopeful is that she’s become the de facto leader of the ‘bikelash’ movement.”

A cartoon depicts a man and a woman walking side by side on a street. The woman wears a stylish dress and holds a purse, while the man is in a suit. The caption reads, "My desire to be well-informed is currently at odds with my desire to remain sane.”

When newly-elected Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson started converting car lanes to bike lanes in 2009, pundits claimed it was political suicide. In 2018, he stepped down after three terms as the longest-serving mayor in the city's history. So what can this tale teach us about so-called "bikelash"?🧵
You might think that the mayor of Yellowknife, the capital of Canada's vast Northwest Territories, would be a fan of giant pickups.
Nope. He's disgusted by car bloat.

Good article. This problem is also rampant with trains - every agency wants custom kit instead of just buying things off the rack.

Inspired by the cities we adore and the practical magic that keeps them moving 🚉✨ 📐
