I have two cats, one of them around the same age. Peanut has been through a lot, she currently gets fresh poultry, yogurt and grain free snacks with her thyroid medication and she's still annoyed. She'll fade away eventually, but putting her to sleep always felt like soft suicide to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
